Linux CLI tools and Shell Scripting ebook for beginner to intermediate level users

Hello!

I am pleased to announce a new version of my Linux Command Line Computing ebook.

This ebook aims to teach Linux command line tools and Shell Scripting for beginner to intermediate level users. The main focus is towards managing your files and performing text processing tasks. Plenty of examples are provided to make it easier to understand a particular tool and its various features. There are 200+ exercises to help you practice what you've learned and solutions are provided for reference. I hope this ebook would make it easier for you to discover CLI tools, features and learning resources.

I would highly appreciate it if you'd let me know how you felt about this book. It could be anything from a simple thank you, pointing out a typo, mistakes in code snippets, which aspects of the book worked for you (or didn't!) and so on. Reader feedback is essential and especially so for self-published authors.

Happy learning :)

I think you should advertise this book to its intended audience... which may not be r/commandline (I expect most members of this sub already know most if not all of this stuff) but rather r/linux4noobs ("Linux introductions, tips and tutorials").

Plus, they may not be able to nitpick on technical details ("you have a useless-use-of-cat on page 532"), but they are the best to point out things they do not understand and thus things that require some more work.

Niiice -- and it is Textual-based -- I like this framework.

I would highly appreciate it if you'd let me know

It is desperately difficult to get feedback other than upvotes, thumbs, retweets and stars, eh? I sympathise.

Thanks, I've made a crosspost to linux4noobs. Historically, I've posted my CLI books here regardless of difficulty level and mostly received good feedback - it's almost a reflex action to post it here ;)

Regarding Textual, yeah that's a great library - liked it better than creating GUI apps.

Thanks for this, I am definitely going to show my 14yo son who seems daunted by using the CLI etc. I keep trying to explain it's not that hard. Maybe this will help!

Hmm, that's an interesting target audience - hope it works and I'd love to know how it went.

I tried searching for some kid friendly linux resources and didn't find anything good. I did come across a couple of discussion threads:

I also have a learning resource list here that might help: https://learnbyexample.github.io/curated_resources/linux_cli_scripting.html
