How exactly is everyone finding food on high pop servers every single tree I go past seems to not have any fruit underneath it. No food to be found in any of the buildings I search is everyone fishing and hunting?

Is that it? Am I missing something else?

Something not mentioned is also killing infected has a chance of dropping food or drink. If all else fails just start killing infected and pray to RNG gods you get food. I get a can of peaches every time! 🍑

Fishing is the answer! You can craft an improvised fishing rod with a rope and long stick. You can create a rope by cutting up guts* or combining 2 - 6 stacks of rags. Also you can make fishing hooks out of wood or bones if you dont find a metal one by overturned boats along the shores or on zombies! Just add a worm for added success and you'll be living large. You may even catch the occasional pot or pair of wellies depending on the fishing hole! I love pot, but that's unrelated!

Pot is the goat

Trees take 5-10 minutes if you being near them to spawn fruit.

You get a bit more fluid from mushrooms - I recommend hanging in a field of haybales for 10 minutes and then run around harvesting the mushrooms that spawn around the haybales…also learn which logs and broken tree stumps spawn mushrooms in the forest. You also get a lot more fluid from dried mushrooms than you do from dried fruit - my spawn after the wipe was on yellow food and water status for hours even though I had eaten probably 3 dozen pieces of fruit during that time but when I found a spot spawning a bunch of mushroom, it only took a handful of them to push me into the white.

Ultimately fishing is going to be your best bet for food - two stacks of 6 rags makes a rope. A rope combined with a long stick makes a fishing pole…you can craft hooks from short sticks or bones and you can dig up worms with any blade or digging tool. Fish have the most caloric value of any food in the game. These days if I find a fishing pole when I spawn in, I hang onto that sucker, and If not, I might run around with a rope belt for really long time so I can quickly create a fishing pole whenever I need one……catch three or four fish, tie the rope back into a belt when I’m done and split the pole up and use for firewood when cooking them…

I larp with mushrooms, get a cooking pot, throw in some of those, some chicken, veggies and put it on improvised stand. Gotta open that chernarus Michelin starred restaurant.

I'm finding enough to just stay alive in buildings.

Got lucky n killed a rabbit & chicken (just bumped into them while travelling) and that allowed me to actually get my hunger up to full.

Idk whats going on with trees but I haven't had any luck with figs

(This is all assuming Nasdara map)

But on high pop, you'll usually despawn after 10 minutes at the same fruit tree

Look in houses and green houses, infected. I never have to hunt or fish.

RiloxAres

Yes hunting, I killed a sheep and got enough meat for a few hours of running around.

Dense_Razzmatazz5479

Go fishing, catch fish, build fire, make sharp stick, cook fish, eat fish

OrangeLBC

Fishing has been my latest go to. Catch two fish, find a well and you can get tf off the coast. Once you get further in to the map it’s easier to find what you need

Knife, 12 rope, any body of water, infinite fishies

The way I consistently find food is looking in the spots that most people overlook and not making the mistake of back tracking. I keep the map open on my phone and mark off each building as I search it, once Ive cleared a town I move on quickly. Lingering for too long and sprinting everywhere is why most people starve. Slow down and you’ll find there is food everywhere.
