Chapter 3 platform change

What specifically causes the change in the platform positions during Chapter 3? I’m referring to the point where the existing platforms disappear, and are replaced by a slightly more annoying set. Is there an easy way to tell when it’s going to happen? It can happen dynamically even when someone is on the button the whole time.

There is a way to tell when the platforms will change. Here are some clear things to listen for which will tell you when:

The pagoda counter resets.

About 2 seconds later, the duellist is spat out.

About 3 seconds later, that same duellist hits the floor.

If you're still climbing by this point, then jump.

A bolt of lightning will strike and the platforms will reset. If you're pulling yourself up, you will fall. If you're stationary, you will fall. But if you're jumping upward, there's a chance you will land on one of the newly spawned platforms.

Basically, from the time the pagoda resets to the time the platforms reset, you have about six seconds.

Do with that information what you will.

Thanks Jetpacs, that was exactly what I was looking for 👍🏻

It’s when the the third player to go in gets kicked out if you’ve not made it all t way before then it drops you

The thing is, it also changes the platform orientation on the left side though, which would be absolutely pointless if it only happens after the third dueler gets kicked out.

Are you sure?

In terms of the timing, the platforms change when the new torii gate opens, i.e. at the moment the white curtain of light appears, the platforms beneath it change.

OK, so not just after the third dueler. That makes more sense.

What Porterhouse said is true. Has been that way since the beginning. A popular way to avoid the skips is doing a 2-1 split. Two people go immediately up on the left, one goes in, the other one stands by for their turn. As soon as the person on the button sees they’re both in, they can go let someone up on the right. Then they can wait for the first person to go in to get kicked out and come to them on the right and either go in last, or have the person running buttons go in last.
