Any recs for email providers?

I'm working on a simple api just to play with nestjs. Part of that is building auth with passport and I wanted to ask what do you guys use for email confirmation or password resets?

Sendgrid is the best imo

KindraGina

Sendgrid is horrible. Worst support. Worse analytics. Data is garbage. Constantly going into spam. Impossible to get any support.

Check out Amazon SES for a cheap/reliable email API. Waypoint if you don't want to bother building the HTML emails in code.

Doesn't SES have strict requirements for who can use their service? I heard you have to justify your use to support and then they'll activate prod version for you

You won't need prod mode if you're just having a play with nest.js

SES still lets you do whatever testing in the free tier. You do need to submit for prod access but it's just to make sure you're not doing anything malicious mostly.

Also just to point out since someone mentioned sendgrid, they do the same, except they lock your account until justification.

Honestly if you're just doing testing though, I'd suggest trying mailtrap, it gives you an smtp provider you can use with nodemailer and an inbox for it, good for getting around all the added hurdles from real providers. But if you do need an actual provider I'd also suggest SES. Their documentation on errors and the SDk itself are much better than others IMO.

AWS is changing the limits on the free tier for SES, I still think the new limit easily accommodates a hobby/small project.

Nope. They just ask what you’re using it for

DownfaLL-

I use AWS SES

I use mailgun with passport/nest js, since I already had an account setup with my domain for use with other self hosted services. but interested if there are better options out there.

We currently use mailgun but damn their web portal lately was god awful for those in support (like that need to look up the email logs or remove suppressions).

They also don’t always post a status updates about outages, things like inability to login and load the dashboard, for hours (and then sometimes they do).

In the past couple months, it probably failed to load at least 5 separates times for me personally (I wanna say a majority were within a 2 week window but still)

Oh I’m planning on sendgrid because it seems to have everything.

But I’m saving that for like a launch task. Right now I send “email” to slack channels

Sendgrid is horrible.

benracicot

Oh no! Tell me more, is it actually so bad that I should look elsewhere? And who should I use?

phischer_h

Used sendgrid for a while and was happy with it. Later we changed to debit cards at our company, which sendgrid does not except. Now we are using resend.com and I like it even better.

Postmark (https://postmarkapp.com/) because they have simple Rest API and I hate SMTP.
