Pretty sure you would have a conflict or two here.

Conflicts can be resolved. :)

£45 for a ticket or "pay your own price" honesty ticket. Ehhh what. So I can just throw £5 and get entrance? Why offer the £45 one? Serious question

EnzoScifo

Quick guess the honesty tickets could be different coloured, or if not people might just feel a little more comfortable presenting themselves knowing they've paid.

If you are a student, junior developer or just don't care that much it isn't really an issue. If I were to go myself I would be presenting myself as a freelance developer looking for business. If a company sends some of their staff they are representing the company.

£45 isn't a lot if you compare it to a lot of the other conferences going about

[deleted]

Yeah i suppose they could be different coloured , but I wonder though. I mean ye could be a fuck and pay 10p for an honesty ticket if ye really wanted. I have no background in programming or any current intention of getting into it but would happily go along to listen to some key speakers as I am interested in computing in general.

Just thought if a considerable amount of people got honesty tickets at £1 or £2 each, surely they'd make a loss

EnzoScifo

For yourself then there would be no expectation to pay for the honesty ticket. I imagine they expect enough people to go who are representing businesses that will end up paying the lions share of what they receive, but it isn't in their interest to have a half empty event either and have the internet saying it was a rip-off and that's why nobody went

[deleted]

Ah right dead on. Thanks for the insight. Yeah I might take a trip up and pay a fiver for a ticket !

It's called an honesty ticket because they're relying on people being honest. And I don't think the ticket prices are so exorbitant that genuine honesty ticket holders would dwarf the full price payers.

The idea of the honesty tickets is so that freelancers, self employed people or recent graduates can afford to go if they don't have a company backing them. Not that the tickets are too bad, compared to all the european conferences I'd like to go to that are 500+EUR before travel costs.

What about shites like me that don't know a dick about coding except that one module in my foundation degree ? Might go on ahead for the craic anyway

ciaran036

Turns out I know or at least have met half the list of speakers before. Is the dev community in Belfast really that small?

Also, OP, are you one of the speakers?

It looks like an interesting event though, if I wasn't throwing away my money on alcohol and music festivals I'd totally be there 😛

clairebones [OP]

Hah yes I am, which should answer your first point - the dev community in Belfast really is that small :P Not sharing for people to see my talk though as the smaller audience the better for me lol, but there hasn't been much advertising it outside of slack sadly.

ciaran036

ah cool we've met then :) you were assisting (and was very helpful) at the Global Game Jam earlier this year at Farset labs.

clairebones [OP]

Ah cool, yeah I've been running GGJ for the last 5 years now, glad you enjoyed!

Met one of the speakers (Seemed like a really, really sharp bloke) a few years back, but I wouldn't pay £45 for the privilege of listening to him.
