Tom Hanks to star in baseball movie based on Dave Eggers short story 'The Comebacker', with Bad Bunny and Colman Domingo eyed for roles, to be directed by Marielle Heller ('A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood'). Sony leads the bidding war for the project.

You can read the short story it's based on right here! Non-paywalled version.

Edited to add: At first I wasn't going to read the story, because urgh, baseball. But then I thought I'd skim enough just to have an idea of who Bad Bunny would play. And damn, I got completely into it! Delightful little story! Would make for a great movie if they do it right!

Tom Hanks and Bad Bunny is a crossover I never thought I needed

Gayfetus [OP]

It already happened! Tom Hanks was spotted at a Bad Bunny concert in Australia a few weeks ago. As Hanks is also a producer on The Comebacker, he was probably there to talk to Benito about being in the movie.

Weren't they at the SNL 50th Anniversary event?

There’s no crying in baseball!

I read Robert Eggers instead of Dave Eggers and my brain went haywire for a nanosecond.

I read ‘The Comebacker’ and my mind immediately went juvenile🫩

With this and Porto Rico, as well as a small role in the this-had-Oscar-buzz Caught Stealing, Bad Bunny is building quite the awards-friendly acting resume! At the very least, bro is picking really interesting projects!

Trying to get enough industry cred so he can revive El Muerto!

Well I'm excited. Hanks? Bunny? Domingo? Heller? Yes please.

The Comebacker?

SuspiciousPrune4

There will definitely be nobody making fun of the title

Balorclub2069

With the influx of new academy members over time and Bad Bunny being tied/picking interesting projects, and with how respected he is, and still gaining that respect, an Oscar nod down the line doesn't sound that crazy.

Hellerheads, we are so back!

MakinOutWithMarzipan

Way too early to predict anything, but Tom Hanks third Oscar incoming? If Sean Penn can do it, certainly Hanks can.
