Unintended opportunity?

So, basically, I missed out on Okita's bond mission because I progressed too far, however, I remembered seeing the requirement was that I needed to side with the shogunate for the Ikeda Inn Incident mission. So I went back in ToTS to change my decision and everything went fine.....but all the shrines came back and the map was full of enemy areas. Candy. I swept through everyone and everything and ended up with an additional 30+ skill points. I'm just wondering if this was intended and if it happened to anyone else?
