Weaving gets it's elasticity (if any) from the stretch of the fibers, but has a rigid structure, usually this leaves a closed surface, not ideal for a net
Knitting forms loops which may move inside one another and you can also change the size of said loops, depending what your net is supposed to catch.
If you want to know the lover limit of knitting loops, take a look at your T-Shirt, 95% sure that is knit as well.
