There are no guarantees but look at the long term performance of the market. There are ups and downs but long term it grows. You have to be prepared for that.
You need to invest regularly. A Roth IRA is about the tax handling, you need to pick investments inside the account.

I agree. That feels somewhat low for something that requires surgery and pain for months, let alone is permanent. The fact OP got policy limits kind of shows that. Also a good reminder why UIM coverage is so important.
OP, I’m glad your happy with the outcome and I hope you continue to heal.

Yes. The wash sale rule is about about claiming the losses, nothing else.
08b
There is no expectation of outperforming the market. That’s the definition.
08b
The wash sale rule just prevents you from claiming capital losses on your taxes. So not a major issue here.
You might want to invest in more diversified funds anyway. Like total US and total intl.

What is your cost basis in VOO in your taxable account? What is it worth now?
08b
We're talking about 401k though, not other plans.
08b
No HCEs do not have different plans. If they did the company wouldn’t pass discrimination testing in the plan and would likely limit HCE contributions. They don’t want that.

It’s a benefit. There are absolutely lower cost options even for the employer. Usually this is due to lack of awareness rather than trying to pass along fees. Especially when dealing with advisor fees.
08b
They need to find a cheaper advisor. That is abnormally high. And the C suite is paying it too. Lots of people have no idea how this works who are picking benefits.

The 0.84% management fee is the glaring issue here. Petition your employer to fix this. Many may not know how much of an impact this will have on their long term savings. Show them, and they will also want to improve this.
I assume the target date funds are still hit with the management fee. So that’s not really going to help.

Literally everything I own including my lawnmower gets synthetic. It’s cheap enough that it’s worth it (or at least it was until recently).
Agree with 5k intervals. It’s just easy to prevent issues further down the road. I know the oil is still protecting at 5k. At 10k maybe not.

You can’t contribute to a 401k outside of paycheck deductions from a current job. You can gift them the money and have them spend that while increasing their contributions though. But they need the account offered by their employer in the first place. Otherwise help them setup and IRA or a brokerage account if there are no other options.

Yup. Lots of people think oil weight is the only factor. Additives are incredibly important and lower viscosity oils are engineered to lubricate correctly. The short answer is people don’t know what was changed (if anything) for cars sold with that oil recommendation vs other viscosities worldwide.
I follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for viscosity, though I do change oil more frequently. Worst case I waste some money. Best case I decrease deposits. I keep my cars for a long time.

100% equities is aggressive. VGT is essentially uncompensated risk rather than being aggressive.

They are paying the vast majority of the costs if that’s all you paid. Very large companies are likely self insured, with a company processing claims. That might reduce their costs a bit but they can only do so much, especially when covering families in addition to the employees. It’s why they are trying to get people to be healthier with various initiatives. It can reduce their costs a bit.

There’s no magic solution to our current healthcare structure. Costs per person at the end of the day are pretty much the same. You subsidize it or push more of the cost to the employees through higher deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. There’s only so much a larger risk pool can really give you.

One is a mutual fund the other an ETF. Otherwise SP500 funds or total US market funds are essentially the same. There are small expenses ratio differences but along these it’s trivial.
I recommend total US and total intl. ETF vs MF is more about the trading differences than anything else. At Fidelity you can also use the Zero funds in a tax advantaged account.

Insurance is absolutely not nothing for a business, especially a small one. It’s going to be close to what it costs for an individual. But it’s the cost of hiring and retaining employees.
08b
Exactly. The benefits don’t seem competitive at all. I’m sure that’s not helping. I’m not sure what’s typical for mechanics but this doesn’t feel competitive.

MPG could be due to test drives, short drives, maintenance, etc. City driving would be much higher.
It’s at a dealer. Tell them to diagnose the sensor issue before you buy. Its under warranty unless it was damaged in some way.

Really need ERs but almost certainly 70/30 total US (SP500/mid/small cap or just SP500) and total intl would be my recommendation.
Possibly a target date fund if the ER is low.
None of these are ETFs by the way.

Not in any way different than share price increase of the same percentage, expect for the tax drag on dividends if in a taxable account.

It’s taking something functional and spending a lot of money to make it much less functional in almost every way possible. Very odd.
Who would be responsible other than her? No insurance, didn’t opt for insurance from the rental car company, or from a credit card.
