Try neopixel. I think there's a chance fast led doesn't work with SK6812. Here's an old forum post: https://github.com/FastLED/FastLED/issues/482
My config is:
light:
- platform: neopixelbus
pin: RX
num_leds: 60
name: "neo_pixel"
id: neo_pixel
variant: SK6812
type: GRBW

I've noticed that as well. Tried to google it, but couldn't find anything.

Probably not quite what you're looking for, but if you're just interested in making just a few switches accessible: you can use the telegram integration to send some simple commands.

Thinking about it, the other thing I remember made a difference was supplying the board with 5v rather than 3.3v.

What does your configuration file look like? I vaguely remember having a similar problem. The current one that works for me is this:
esphome:
name: camera
platform: ESP32
board: esp-wrover-kit
wifi:
ssid:
password:
# Enable logging
logger:
# Enable Home Assistant API
api:
ota:
# Example configuration entry
esp32_camera:
name: ESP32 Camera
external_clock:
pin: GPIO0
frequency: 20MHz
max_framerate: 20 fps
idle_framerate: 0 fps
i2c_pins:
sda: GPIO26
scl: GPIO27
data_pins: [GPIO5, GPIO18, GPIO19, GPIO21, GPIO36, GPIO39, GPIO34, GPIO35]
vsync_pin: GPIO25
href_pin: GPIO23
pixel_clock_pin: GPIO22
power_down_pin: GPIO32
resolution: 640x480
jpeg_quality: 30
output:
#flashlight
- platform: gpio
pin: GPIO4
id: gpio_4
#statuslight
- platform: gpio
pin:
number: GPIO33
inverted: True
id: gpio_33
light:
#flashlight
- platform: binary
output: gpio_4
name: $hostname flash
#statuslight
- platform: binary
output: gpio_33
name: $hostname status

If it's just one or two lines that need updating, you can simply do the following: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4897359/output-to-the-same-line-overwriting-previous-output-python-2-5

Well, robot is famously a Czech word: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot I would guess that technically it did come to Japan via a detour in English though.
