The thing is, live service game monetization doesn’t have to be scummy.

Warframe is finding a nice balance for example (in my opinion). They’re monetizing people not willing to wait a few days until they have farmed the new stuff, but there is hardly anything you can’t get in the game.

Genshin Impact is insanely expensive, but only if you want EVERYTHING. It’s a great game with tons of content, completely free to play otherwise. And you can still assemble at least one competitive team, without spending a dime. It may just take a free months.

Not that it is an excuse for toxic behavior (there isn’t), but the game is build to foster toxicity. You spent 40 minutes in a run with people where the outcome of the run is heavily dependent not only on the skill of your team mates, but on shear luck as well. It’s also highly frustrating at times, especially when you have multiple bad runs in a row.

Don’t get me wrong, if that enrages someone, that person should go out and touch grass. However, I’m not surprised a run can become toxic very quickly.

This cannot be overstated. In the past, relocating for a new job wasn’t something out of the ordinary. But it needs to come with the expectation that this job is stable enough, so that it makes the personal investment worth it. This is no longer the case, by any stretch of the imagination.

Unfortunately, two people working instead of just one had increased the average household buying power, which meant that companies could get away with increasing prices. Now we’re stuck with an adjusted cost of living and going back to what is received a single income household is pretty much impossible.

The article you linked also doesn’t mention the bias of people who like AI, but the bias of the systems against minority groups which isn’t what we were talking about. I’m not transphobic and I don’t deny that these issues aren’t a problem that don’t need be addressed.

I also happen to work in this field with a lot of great people. We have an entire team mathematicians which are mostly non-binary and some of them trans, and I have an issue with people just throwing around accusations and make up numbers, without any evidence to support them.

Ist in meinen Augen auch nicht das größte Problem, solange für den Rest von uns noch genug übrig bleibt. Eine starke Mittelschicht mit soliden Gewerkschaften und gut finanzierte Programme für die Bildung und Unterstützung von sozial schwächeren Personen/Familien und dann können gerne ein paar Großunternehmer ihren Gewinn mit dem maximieren, was noch übrig ist.
