Many corporate invoices take 90 days for payment. Was DCF cashless? Could that be a problem?
AUTeach
This legislation is from the Morrison government.

But if a student used AI, that's a disciplinary matter, right?
To be fair, there's a significant difference between using GenAI to create content for a job and using GenAI as an authentic representation of your learning and understanding.

University HR is incestuous. If you burn your bridges at one university, you could easily have burned them all. Considering that there are only 44 universities in Australia it's not difficult to get black listed.
AUTeach
didn't they increase ES pay?
AUTeach
- As we speak right now, WPI has been floating around 4%pa
- This EA is after below WPI/CPI pay rises for 4 years. So, it's a catch up one.

They can get a Dip Ed too.
only in WA.

My grad salary from a few years ago was 60,000 and it was an engineering graduate. And shit, we were doing as much as anyone.
Did you have the same responsibilities as a senior/staff engineer?
AUTeach
Teaching requires a lot of unpaid overtime to not reach those upper ranges.
AUTeach
I have never seen a grad position that requires them to have the same responsibilities as a senior with effectively zero support from the business. If only because that is a sure fire way to make the business fail.
AUTeach
My grad salary nearly 2 decades ago was less than half of this figure.
A basic rule of thumb is that the doubling point due to inflation is about 21 years.
$96,589 as a starting graduate seems pretty high.
It's below the average full-time substantive wage in Australia for an industry with a critical shortage of employees.

A lot of people think that teaching is just walking into a classroom and telling kids what to do.
Not only do teachers need to prepare and assess that material for an ever-increasing range of student ability, but they also have a ridiculous amount of other administration that goes on behind the hood.
For example, our school is attempting to make teachers document every single conversation with students that isn't explicitly teaching and learning related in our school management system. So, if a kid asks about an extension and the teacher says "sorry, you need to go to student services to ask for that." then teachers need to log on Sentral and spend 5 minutes logging that job.
No consider that my assessment, which was released 4 weeks ago, has to be moved around because of an excusion that I had no idea about and I had 42 such communications. That's more than two hours of sitting in front of that fucking management system logging communications.
If I want to run an excursion, it takes hours to go through all the paperwork.
If I want to by say single board computers or microcontrolers for robotics the paperwork has gone from about 20 minutes to about an hour.
Some of my classes (IT) have kids who are illiterate and innumerate and there is no additional support or intervention classes for them; the school expects me to deliver that material in some way that they can understand because "who better to understand student needs than the teacher's on the coalface."
That's a small slice of the admin and extra stuff I'm required to do this week.

Only the top 10% earn over 130k a year, so it's a huge advantage
Are you talking about the top 10% of all income earners? The one that includes people who are:
- casual part-time
- have no educational barriers
Or are you talking about people who are degree qualified, in FTE substantive roles?
AUTeach
I got an honest question. Who appoints/confirms the independent body?
AUTeach
Maybe you should try articulating your argument at an adult level.

Sure, they are working on their work. Curriculum days are mostly doing work for other people.
AUTeach
I hear contradictory things from teachers. Teachers constantly say they work during school holidays and that it isn’t time off.
There are like 330,000 FTE teachers in Australia from a pool of 553,000 registered. Like everything, experiences are a bell curve. The question is, where is the average?
Government/Governance refuse to do any investigation in teacher workload so it comes down to workforce surveys:
So, the answer is, including between term breaks, not good.
I don’t really mind either way, but if it’s meant for time off
It depends on the EA. But in my EA it's supposed to be time off, as it recognises that teachers work beyond the hours per week we are contracted to. However, I have a question for you:
Given the choice, would you prefer to do some work during your holidays, so your first few weeks back at work aren't 60 hour slogs?
Of course, you're going to do some work during holidays, even though you aren't really supposed to.
In which case curriculum days make more sense.
Choose one from the following:
- Work on stuff at home which will improve your quality of life during term; or
- Work at school on stuff leadership/governance wants while the work that you need to get done doesn't happen.
Curriuclum days are, largely, doing other people's work. Work that doesn't make your actual job any easier. Often it's hoop jumping administrative work that exists simply because the education department mandated it and then nobody ever looks at it, or worse it's double work where you have to do something in one place and then do effectively the same thing somewhere else so two different groups of stakeholders can see that you've done it (the systems don't talk to each other) and then nobody will look at it.

The trap that the people going to the cheap non-governments have fallen into is that once government schools are broken, the wealthy will take your funding away anyway so you'll have to go back to, the now broken, government schools.
AUTeach
Because the only time it's really happened on mass the non-government schools weren't actually in financial trouble so they weren't selling. They just wanted public funding.
When this happened recently in Canberra, the ACT government stepped in until a new non-government governance provider stepped in.
AUTeach
By what standards is bail considered?
AUTeach
It's amazing how confident you are, when you clearly have no idea how the world works. Go back to drinking gravy.

Yeah, well some people say that you eat babies! I'm just here to peddle rumors

Nobody believes your dumbshit lies.

And the scope of criticality in a paper exam is pretty narrow.
Some events are cashless. You tap your wristband to pay, and the festival pays the vendor later.
It can take 14 to 28 days for the service provider to settle. Final settlement can take 30 to 60 days after the event. On top of that, many providers may hold a reserve for chargebacks and disputes for up to 180 days.
Vendors are paid by the event, so their payment is probably after the final settlement and before the reserve date.
