This is a common misconception. It only increases if your value goes up relative to your all your neighbours’ values.

The city decides on a budget then works backwards to decide the property tax to cover all its line items and sometimes sells bonds.

So yes if your house doubles in price and no one else’s does then you’re on the hook for 2x property tax but if everyone’s house doubles in price all things being equal gross property taxes stay the same. The rate would actually be half of what it was before.

From the countries I’ve lived in it’s just a matter of city dwellers and rural people having different interests.

Cities are dependent on shared infrastructure which skews more left.

Rural people put emphasis on local control and don’t need as much shared infrastructure.

I was about to start arguing but reading this made me reconsider. I try to conserve water but if I do it by hand it’s on for minimum of 5 minutes between soaking, pre rinsing, and final wash after detergent. And that’s for like a small sink full of dishes and not a whole filled dishwasher.

I’ll only wash what I need immediately otherwise I’m using the dishwasher guilt free now.

I wonder if there is an energy consideration. If it uses 5kwh of electricity how much water is needed to create 5kwh of electricity. I guess the hot water in the hot water heater also needs energy to warm up. Whatever there is no ethical dishwashing. I’m doing what’s easiest now

If people understood that we spend 40 billion on indigenous affairs federally every year and what 40 billion could do for all Canadians I think there would be a huge political shift.

We spend like 400 billion on healthcare and only 60 billion on defence.

We could make every single public university and university country wide tuition free with 25 billion yearly.

I honestly think without Dripa, Sogi and letter grade changes the NDP win this election.

They can’t help but give in to these minority opinions. They won’t lose the LGBT or indigenous vote. There is no reason to pander so hard to them at the expense of all workers.

Guy from the Fraser valley that has a skilled job but doesn’t make bank. Journeyman electrician, accountant with a 2 years of schooling or small business owner that owns a gas station or a small restaurant.

Just a normal guy from an average part of the province.
