If your client is running Windows, open a command line on your client and type:

ping -t x.x.x.x

(But use the IP address of your host instead of x.x.x.x)

If your client is running Linux, same thing, but you don't need the -t.

Accomplished-Lack721

First thing I would do is to leave a ping running and see if every 60-90 seconds anything weird happens -- dropped connections, excessively long latency, etc. And then, if so, you know it's something going on with your network and can investigate further.

Did you mean your PC does not have these frame drops while playing locally? Or you mean (as you wrote) that it does?

If the latter, then there's no reason to think Vibepollo or Moonlight VRR have anything to do with it.

Accomplished-Lack721

I don't see anywhere they're mocking the idea? They're explaining how to do it. There isn't much to it.

There's a little elaboration that might be helpful, but what they're saying is accurate:

* Back everything up for good measure and to guard against mistakes you may make (which you should be doing already if you're not).

* Stop the container

* Copy the folder with your library over to a share on your NAS

* Mount the NAS share

* Update your Docker Compose YAML and/or env to point to the new location for the library, at the mount point you used for the NAS share (the Docker container will always see it at the same location internally. You're changing the location that's being mapped to)

* Start up the container again.

From the perspective of Immich running in the container, nothing changed.

If you decide to go that route, machine learning only takes a few minutes to set up. But also -- which Ugreen? It may have more than enough horsepower for it. If anything, it's just usually the initial ingest of a big preexisting library that takes meaningful time for machine learning and face recognition. Adding a few dozen or even a few hundred files at a time moves along quickly even with n100/300-class chips.

FWIW, I think RAID is a bit overrated on home setups unless you care about 24/7 (or close to it) reliability. It's your backups that protect your data against most sorts of failure (including but not limited to human error), not your RAID — the RAID just gets you continuity in case one of the drives goes down. And given the price of storage, I'd rather use my extra drives for more space (or as backup destinations) than redundancy in almost any situation where downtime is an inconvenience, not a mission-critical problem.

Accomplished-Lack721

Why not move the Immich instance to the NAS as well? Is it robust enough for it? Almost any NAS with an x86 processor and a decent amount of RAM can handle Immich for one or a few users without breaking a sweat.

Yes, it could go offline, but so could the machine currently running it. If you really care about 24/7 uptime you could start getting into failover strategies but that's overkill for a lot of personal users.

I suspect the biggest difficulty with depending on Topaz, instead of regenerating from the same seed, is dealing with faces a moderate to long distance away. Topaz can't do much with a face in the background of a 480p file, and sometimes really mangles it. But a 1080p render of the same material can provide a lot more detail.

Board: Enjoy the a bug/glitch/feature.

I'd say the biggest advantage to a miniPC is that hardware allowing, you can get VRR working.

Accomplished-Lack721

That too!

Lighter, better battery life, run Android (which includes running games optimized for mobile as well or better than just about any other mobile device).

It has a 120Hz refresh rate, which you may find appealing.

It won't be as flexible for running PC games as a Steam Deck.

Honestly, if I already had a Steam Deck, I wouldn't buy one -- I'd consider it redundant. But if already owned an Odin 3 Portal, I also wouldn't buy a Steam Deck for the same reason.

I'd only buy both if one could serve a specific need the other can't. For instance, if I cared about fuller PC compatibility and owned an Odin, I might buy a SD — but I don't.

While I agree it's an odd and frustrating design choice, the community has your back:

I'm not sure how that's at all relevant here. For one, iPads start at as little as $450. But the question was why someone would want to play this cut-down version of the game - and the answer is because this may be the device they have. If the device is otherwise working well for them, advising them to sell it to fund something else would be silly.

I personally prefer a flagship Galaxy Tab over an iPad. But there are several apps only available or better supported on iPads, and if those are important to the user - or if it's just the environment they prefer - they're not going to sell it to trade.

As is, the Switch version of the game is through cloud streaming. This is native on-device play. Two very different situations each with their own benefits and each fitting different use cases.

Dry food and wet food each have their own benefits and detriments.

Dry food doesn't help them hydrate, and cats are generally bad at hydrating on their own. It's often (not always) closer to junk food than wet food.

But dry food also helps with dental health. And it's typically higher in calorie content for a serving, which can be important if you have a cat dropping weight for any of a number of reasons (we've gone through this with senior cats who've have serious, but not-immediately-life-threatening ailments). And some cats are better at hydrating than others.

Plus ... you can only do so much as a human. If you've got a busy day, especially if you have to be out of the house for long stretches, dry food left out for them to graze (if they have the temprament to graze) can be better than letting them go for long times without eating (or having them ignore wet food that's gotten stale and dry sitting on a dish while you're away).

And the most important thing is that they're eating. A cat who goes too long without eating can spiral into quick organ failure, with a loss of appetite that makes it hard to get them taking in calories again — that usually takes at least a few days, but you don't want to mess around with it.

We give our cats some of each. Our senior-most cat — who lost a concerning amount of weight connected to some combination of age, IBD and/or cancer (it's hard to discern definitively between IBD and intestinal cancer without very invasive biopsies) — gets a buffet of whatever he wants. We sometimes even leave what would otherwise be an unhealthy amount of treats available to him, to help whet his appetite. He's putting back on the pounds, slowly.

You do what you gotta do. Take them for checkups once a year (or more if you're aware of an issue needing attention), do your best to get them a good balance, but don't worry about dogmatically (catmatically?) only going for wet or only going for dry. You've got to adjust for your cat's needs, and yours, and do what's realistic to make sure they're getting the calories and nutrients they need. There are rarely perfect answers that real-life situations let you adhere to 100% of the time.

Not likely, unless some runaway background process is really obnoxiously taking over everything. For the most part, the foreground app gets priority, and the hardest work (video decoding) is happening on dedicated hardware in the SOC.

The major impediment to good performance with a TV is that most of them doing have very good decoders for realtime, low-latency applications like game streaming, and many TV's don't allow their in-built apps to do more than 4K60 even if the TV is 4K120.

Accomplished-Lack721

They're joking, but you actually DO go back/forward/sideways in time (though not in a way that's useful to your question)

Accomplished-Lack721

Because there are lots of cases where someone may have an iPad/iPhone but not another device that's particularly good at gaming. Maybe they don't have a computer or game console at all, or if they do have a computer, it only has an iGPU.

And even if they do have another gaming-capable device, they may want to game on the go, and may not have another alternative for that.

Tipsy because of all the moonshine?

Accomplished-Lack721

I understand the sentiment, but let's be careful about describing use of open source software in a project under permitted terms as parasitic. It's available under those terms specifically to allow this activity.

Don't get me wrong. I agree that it's in bad form and rude when it's presented without proper acknowledgement or gratitude to the underlying work that makes it possible.

Gonna have to hire some Tuvan throat singers

Mathilda: Leon, what exactly do you do for a living?

Léon: Cleaner.

Mathilda: You mean you're a hit man?

Léon: No, I work at Wear 'Em and Wash 'Em.

From a performance standpoint, no meaningful difference for 1080p120Hz streaming. Decoding time might be a hair better but is already as good as it needs to be for a smooth and low-latency experience on the 2.

It's possible the ergonomics on the 3 Portal will be better, but you'll need to wait until it's in people's hands to know.

Accomplished-Lack721

For the price difference I'd probably go with 9070 over 9070XT. The performance difference between 9070 and 9070XT isn't huge, and you can close some of the gap by upping the power limit.

The PSU would probably be fine regardless if the system isn't otherwise loaded up with power-hungry components. The 5700x3d just isn't that power-hungry in and of itself.

But I'd consider why you want to upgrade in the first place, and whether you'll get enough money back from selling off the 9060XT to make it financially worthwhile. The difference will be meaningful, but not radical. I might consider holding off for the next generation unless I can make it a relatively minor net cost.

The fun thing with this game is you can never tell if graphical glitches are intentional. Did I just lose all my texture assets or am I in the Astral Plane?

Accomplished-Lack721

But they will take time, apparently, to condescend to people about it.
