There’s a great lecture someone posted here. I think it was from Harvard maybe in the early 2000s. Guy spends like an hour explaining why you should never talk to the cops, ever, for any reason. There is even a cop there to reinforce the point. Don’t talk to us. 

Even if you aren’t a “suspect” cops can and often will take anything you say and turn you into one!

To attract important talent to undesirable areas.

People in these communities are often older and/or unwell so it’s important that they have quality medical care. 

If the job paid much lower than similar jobs in more popular areas then they would attract the lowest level of physician (on average). 

My BIL lives in St Louis but worked at a rural hospital 2 hours away bc the pay premium was worth it.

I have a friend who quit his ”oppressive” corporate job to be free and work for himself. 

Now instead of answering to one boss he answers to a couple dozen clients, many of whom can’t read contracts and call him screaming at 2am when their enterprise network goes down.
