I wouldn't worry about it too much. Although most roguelikes use 8-way movement, there are several well-regarded games that use 4-way. Off the top of my head I can immediately think of Golden Krone Hotel, The Ground Gives Way, Powder. It's unusual, but not weird.
AlanWithTea
That's how it reads to me too. The pitch seems like "want to watch AI play your game for you?" and...no? Why would I ever want AI to have my fun for me?

As someone who's done my share of modding over the years (not on Reddit though) it's not about "proper respect", it's about being able to do the job.
Mods are volunteers putting their free time into doing that job unpaid, and the more time they have to spend defending their actions against everyone who doesn't like that a post was deleted, the less time they have available to do the actual modding job.
It's a lot quicker and less aggravation to just delete hostile and argumentative stuff than to get dragged into a debate every time.
Also, and I feel like I'm saying this a lot lately: if you don't like how a particular sub is being run, you can start your own. You're not owed your personal preferences in a sub run by someone else.
AlanWithTea
I find that the vast majority of complaining about DCSS mechanics is pretty baseless, but the falling three floors thing is bullshit. Always has been. It's one of the few things in the game that is a genuinely arbitrary run-ender
AlanWithTea
This is it. You're not going to like everything that someone else likes. There isn't some key that will suddenly make you like a particular game if it just isn't your taste.

To go off at a tangent, when I first used my northern Welsh with a (different) friend from the south, she found it hilarious. The north is relatively rural, as you probably know. My friend said that in English I sound quite verbose and articulate like an academic and my accent is pretty neutral, but in Welsh I sound like a farmer XD
AlanWithTea
I've been learning northern Welsh and I'll repeat what a southern Welsh-speaking friend said to me: "I'll understand you but you might not understand me"
If your half-sister is a native Welsh speaker then she'll recognise most of the differences in north and south dialects and she'll be able to understand you. You might have more trouble understanding her because she'll be using some words that are different than the ones you've learned. It's not a huge issue though - it's just a matter of trying to pick up on what the northern words for certain things are.

It's called code switching, you see it all the time in communities/environments where most people are bilingual (or multilingual)

It is weird and unpleasant to listen to, but albums that subvert conventions aren't new. If anything, I'd say this album is more vaporwave than most.
It repurposes existing material to do something weird, unexpected and parodic/ironic. It's mocking and sarcastic, presenting warped and distorted versions of older stuff to create an uncomfortable effect. That's very vaporwave.
Do I enjoy it? No. But I don't think it's really supposed to be enjoyed.

As others have mentioned, limiting self-promotion is probably a good thing. I'm in some other subs that are about 90% just self-promotion posts, so it's not worth even bothering to go in them most of the time. It's effectively just constant ads. I like relatively strict moderation, personally.
Also worth bearing in mind that a subreddit isn't a public service, it's a community voluntarily run by a handful of people. There's nothing stopping anyone starting their own sub with different rules.

It's the same word, it's just that the C changes to a G in some sentences/phrases because of the way Welsh grammar works. The kind of 'default' form of the word is Celyn.
AlanWithTea
Agreed, Evangelyn doesn't read as a name with a connection to Welsh folklore, it reads as a name that's trying to look like it has a connection to Welsh folklore 😂 Like when someone tries to sound refined by throwing in phrases in French or Italian or whatever, but get it entirely wrong
AlanWithTea
You're not wrong. The story is better than SR1 (or at least better developed and more involved) but the gameplay is worse. I thought that at the time, and my opinion hasn't changed with more recent replays.
AlanWithTea
That's a fun idea, wishlisted

I refuse to play any game that was made by AI in any capacity. This includes only using AI for capsule art or marketing materials.
There are basically three main reasons:
1) It's already hard enough for artists to make a living without passing that work off to AI
2) As a creative person myself, I consider it downright offensive to suggest that a plagiarism robot can in any way create any form of art
3) I haven't seen or heard of a single use, or proposed use, of AI that would justify the scale of environmental damage it causes
So any time I see a game that uses AI in any capacity, however small, my immediate reaction is a combination of "oh you think a robot that just scrapes other people's work is the same as an artist?" and "you want to evaporate the oceans because you can't be bothered to debug your own code?" Yeah, I'm not supporting that shit.

Fatal Labyrinth isn't that bad, in my opinion. It's better than Dragon Crystal, for sure.
My biggest issue with it is that it's kind of arbitrary. In a well designed roguelike, your run ends because you made bad choices or took risks that went bad. In Fatal Labyrinth you get ruined by luck of the draw too often for my liking. Still, it's quite an impressive effort for a console in 1990 and I think it's worth spending a bit of time with as a historical artifact if nothing else.
Dragon Crystal, though, does all the same things wrong that Fatal Labyrinth does - but worse. It's too hard, too punishing, too random. After getting a win in Fatal Labyrinth I decided I'd try for the same in Dragon Crystal but soon dropped it, because it's just not much fun.
AlanWithTea
Really the biggest difference is it's real time and not on a grid, so it's more of a proc gen arcade game than an actual roguelike. I like Toejam and Earl, but turn-based games and real time games play very differently.
AlanWithTea
8/10, I'll take it
Not a single roguelike among them though...
AlanWithTea
A lot of people, me included, will immediately walk away from a game that uses AI. You're setting fire to the planet out of laziness. Stop it.
Controller support is also a deal breaker for me. For a survivorslike, I won't even bother with a demo if there isn't controller support. It's an instant no.
Aside from those points, there's also the fact that nothing makes this game stand out. There are roughly 10 billion survivorslikes out there now, and at least half of them are basically the same game with different graphics. You can't just do the same old thing again and expect it to catch anyone's interest. Maybe your game does do something unique and interesting, but if so then you don't communicate it.
AlanWithTea
"Because I thought it'd be fun and/or interesting to do" is a very underrated reason to do something. It doesn't have to be for profit or to "fill a gap in the market"' or whatever. Do a thing because you want to!
AlanWithTea
Not all races, classes, or combinations have to be equally beginner-friendly
AlanWithTea
It was done a long time ago - the Angband borg has been a thing since the 90s, though of course it wasn't using 2020s tech
AlanWithTea
It's a fun idea! I like the idea of individual game carts in option A, but I think option B would probably work better in practice.
AlanWithTea
They're just different types of design. Some games teach you things, some don't. It's not a zero sum thing, both types can exist. Don't play the type you don't like.
I think you're confusing survivorslikes (similar to Vampire Survivors) and survival games
