I was thinking that the artifact would be a Spacecraft

I hope they eventually print a card that says something like "Destroy target artifact, creature, or Planet."

I ran into the author earlier this year and picked up a copy! He seemed to be a great guy. He drew a little tripod in my book, lol

Joyland mentioned! I've seen this place before, but I never went in 😞
Great recreation, especially the sign!

I'm not seeing a lot of praise for Cosmo Sheldrake's score here, and I think that's a shame. It was instantly recognizable to me and his use of animal and nature sounds added a lot of texture to the scenes it played over.
I noticed pretty early on that the movie was filmed like a stage production, so a lot of things clicked once the initial reveal occurred. I enjoyed piecing together the state of the outside world from the clues that we were given: the dilapidated theater, the communications technology, etc.
There were some other things that stood out to me as well. In Digger's monologue to the European parliament, he points out that they are happy to do business with him even though they accuse him of causing this catastrophe. Then at the end, his actor Curtis (despite performing the monologue) is willing to use Kenny's surveillance apparatus to find his daughter, despite them being responsible for the seemingly totalitarian state they inhabit.
The movie talks a lot about faith, and I think this stands out most at the end of the film. Digger prays for a miracle and is seemingly overcome by madness, but shortly thereafter Curtis receives news of the "miracle" he was hoping for. Whereas Digger leaps overboard and drowns, it's more like a baptism for Curtis who rises again from the sea, head anointed with oil. This is a stark contrast to the loud, performative faith of the President and his entourage.

Hutchinson is a nearby town with a great aerospace museum (the Cosmosphere) and a salt mine that you can tour (Strataca)

Will other celestial bodies have their own maps like the traditional world map, or will there be a different way of interacting with them?

I like this one. I like how the lights lead to the figure, I wish I had a few versions of this shot to choose from at different exposure levels and with a sharper focus, but there's not much I could have done differently at the time. I think the softness does contribute to the uneasy sensation of the image. I need to get a better scan of the negative and try making prints.

I really enjoyed Schismatrix a few years back, and Accelerando is the next book on my to-read list! They also sit right next to each other on my shelf 😀

What advice would you give to a young person interested in chasing birds as a career path?
Albrithr
I didn't like it then, either

I don't think there are any recliners except in the "Director's Suite" theater, which is the smallest one.

I concur. This framing is really great and evokes a lot of traditional art which focuses on the tree branches. Bravo for capturing an oft-photographed subject in such a creative way!

The game wouldn't be the same without him!

I am guessing that is a mountain in the distance and the picture is taken with a telephoto lens

My company pays you the difference between the pay you get for serving on the jury and your normal salary. I've been summoned several times but never had to serve because every time it has been in the wrong county, lol

Neat! I was just wondering what these were called the other day, I have seen them quite a few times at dawn recently. I was wondering if observing them could have helped the ancient peoples determine the shape of the earth.

I especially love that third shot!
