The figure i remember being thrown around was "67%"
67% of taxable real estate in New Haven is owned by Yale. In the CT constitution it says Yale doesnt need to pay tax, so Yale volunteers a tax payment to prevent heads from exploding (written in 1818, re-reconfirmed in 1965).
So when New Haven needs to squeeze more tax revenue out of citizens, owners of the remaining 33% real estate are tasked with covering the bill. This explains why most mobile home buyers choose to live in one of the surrounding towns rather than living downtown if they dont need to be there.
In my perfect world, CT or New Haven would not have such a cozy relationship with Yale. CT + New Haven should attempt to force Yale to commit to reasonable tax plans on land. Liberal New Haven voters love talking about evil billionares controlling America, but they wont consider challenging the behemoth next door to force it to pay a reasonable amount of tax.

Tweet doesnt apply as no crime has occurred. (despite what your damaged ego and imagination is telling you)
53% of the country voted in a president, whos main campaign pledge for the last 2 administrations was to empower ICE, a government organization, rather than neuter it like the Biden/Kamala administration.
I am more likely to fly Avelo going forward knowing i wont have to sit next to nutjobs like yourself on those flights.
Amazing_Ad284
I wouldnt boycott an airline for flying people around for a government contract, i assume 99% of other people wouldnt either
Amazing_Ad284
Avelo has direct flights from New Haven CT -> Portland ME, from there rent a car
Tickets are 40$ currently :)

I get drunk and like to argue myself, hes just me on meth i think

I dont disagree with you that: it would be nice if Connecticut had a vibrant bus/train network so people like me or others who live in the sticks and would like to bus to the city in less than an hour wait time. I dont see that happening given CT's population distribution as trains/buses do a decent job currently (ignoring last legs of trips which require car/ubers).
I think you really want to explore: If you were emperor for life of CT (not subject to short term political costs of being electable, not subject to long term commitments towns already made in terms of bonds, not subject to the people who bought houses on existing roadways whos values would plummet if roads moved), how could you restructure CT's transportation systems? Sure that be interesting but i dont have much to offer there.

there were lots of cabs available, but i didnt want to wait in line as there was a long line of cars to exit
i assume i would have also been allowed to walk out of airport with the cars, but i didnt want to do that either
i dont remember seeing a large set of stairs anywhere so u may be right
Amazing_Ad284
i landed at tweed like 3 years ago. i wanted to call an uber but for some reason wasnt accessible at tweed at the time. i remeber asking an airport worker, can i just walk of the airport? he was like, if u can hop the fence sure, so i jumped the fence and called an uber accross the street.

so you bring up USPS offices, this is a good scenario we can compare to.
every town in america would like their own post office. every town asks the federal govenrment to pay for a free office in their town, the federal govt usually declines small town offices, but occasionally if a politician needs extra political support, they will give a small town a post office in exchange for support on some random issue. it is a win/win for a politician to ask for a post office, even if they get denied, because everyone wants a shorter trip to post office, even if it costs fed govt $4,000,000 to build the place, and it ends up sending only 10 letters a day without saving anyone any serious amount of time.
building public funded train/bus services is a similar scenario, but not identical as fed govt is less involved, usually funded at the local/state level, so random unused train/bus lines less often get build. this is a good thing!
when i lived in stamford, people critical of the bus system monitored the publicly funded bus lines, it became a political issue. Dems would say we want more buses for the poor! repubs would spread photos online of buses during rush hour with only 1 or 2 people on them, sometimes 0 people.
its just very difficult to justify creating government bonds to raise taxes on citiizens for 100 years to build trains/buses to non-job centers when we live in a country where we rely heavily on car centric roads to get around. i agree stamford can justify expanded bus service as like a scoence experiment of breaking reliance on cars, but we shouldnt just encourage all localities to copy stamford because we like the idea of a cheaper commute.

we can agree on improved spoke service (bus) to train depots (hubs), would be nice, but is it really needed while uber/lyft exists?
i see the largest employer in sandy hook is a Sandy Hook promise (120 employees). i dont see how it makes sense to fund bus/train service to a town where realistically 20 people might be commuting to office on a daily basis.

Cool map
I think the real question is what towns are underserved by current rail service? I like taking the train between NYC and CT (which is almost always full of passengers which is a good thing) rather than rending a car for $400 for the weekend, but i doubt supporting rail service to my parents rural town makes financial sense for the state.
Considering residents are already spending cash on roads, i assume increased bus services would be more affordable.

good episode IMO

Piece of advice, dont give advice and also insult someone at the same time, its a waste of energy, just go with your insult next time!
Anyone convinced that raising taxes on America's religious institutions will fix society's problems is already way to far radicalized to listen to anything i say

Im already in the real world, chances are i am more successful than youll ever be based on your strange attitude
Helping develop youth into responsible adults/husbands/wives isnt something i was taught in school. I did learn a lot of lessons at my place of prayer in NH county.
Amazing_Ad284
Completely disagree
If local communities are managing to education/develop people into functioning adults our of Church/temple/etc, thats better than "government" helping these citizens grow into functioning adults.

I did some amateur research a while back
Yale owns %65 of possible taxable real estate in New Haven, property tax is a big driver of tax receipts in CT. The only property tax Yale pays is on that little shopping market next to the Yale bookstore, which includes 2-3 retail stores.
So yea, New Haven is going to continue to beg for pennies until New Haven and Yale work out a more reasonable deal.
But to be honest, I think any additional dollar that gets handed to the New Haven government is a dollar wasted, i dont have any faith in them or the New Haven public to wisely spend any cash.

new haven...

I know a guy who lives in a decent area of NH for 500$ a month
Its a house with a few bedrooms, each room rented out to individuals
Definitly not a fancy new building but looked fine to me

I trust my childhood primary care on such issues
Broke my ankle and tore a bunch of tendons in my foot playing basketball in college. Ortho suggested surgery (some risk with surgery). My childhood doc said unless i was swimming in the Olympics in a few months just wait a year for it to heal, if any pain still, get surgery. Primary care doc was right in my case, no pain about a year after injury (a few years of instability though). My docs point was, many young people get these in joint surgeries (which include a non-marginal risk of infection!! bad stuff), when many young people dont really need them (those ortho docs would prefer everyone get the surgery obviously, they need to pay off the mortfgage to their 4th vacation house in the Hamptons)
In regards to in joint knee surgeries, i would think about it this way.
For knee surgeries, Success vs Failure also needs to include, will patient eventually need a total knee replacement? I believe most peoplle who get ACL surgeries end up needing ACL surgery later in life.
Im not an elite athlete, so i wouldnt consider knee surgery unless pain was ruining my life.
If you are single:
I would move closer to Yonkers so your commute isnt so long, move to an area with more young people so you could maybe not be single
Getting a cheap car would be preferable as well IMO for Yonkers.
If you dont want to move:
I know a guy that commutes Stamford to Yonkers a lot, its doable but a long drive/train
If you plan on taking train, look into getting a tax free commuting card, so at least the $ you spend on public transport is tax free, i would ask my upcoming job if they have a commuting card set up, if they dont, maybe do some googling
Regarding looking for an apartment 3 days a week:
You could try messaging subleting an apartment, tell them youll only be there 3 days a week, ask for a discounted rate because of this, its going to be up to them to aggree to a discount, in NYC i know some people who are only here on certain days, their roomates do not give them a discount tho
