Lemme guess: "poor white dude" means you're making six figures but you've got negative net worth because you live in a rental and you're paying off your student loans as slowly as possible

Sorry for coming back to this so late, but I'm returning to Canada after a brief trip to the US, and my Visa failed me multiple times while I was stateside. There was usually a fairly easy workaround (eg, use insert/pin instead of tap), but still, I was glad I brought some US dollars along just in case. Also I ended up at one place that was cash only ...
I just can't imagine showing up in a foreign country without at least some local currency. Even in the case of US and Canada, where we're so similar and do so much trade, I wouldn't want to be fully dependent on my credit card.

Yeah it's not like aikido techniques don't work, it's just that you need a bunch of other grappling experience to make them work, and (I'm told) most aikido schools don't teach you that.
It very much feels like "here's a great doorknob, now we just need the house that goes with it".

What about their net income?

One of our boys wrote a pretty rippin' poem about WWI. If I had to guess, I'd say that's our contribution that most people would be familiar with.
But also yeah I think Canada's war effort is well respected, and if anything it's become a bit weird lately where people keep making memes about us being too ruthless ("The Geneva Suggestions")
Andy_B_Goode
Yeah, and I suspect most people in the first group don't go around calling themselves Skeptics very often.
It's kind of like how there's nothing wrong with playing video games on a regular basis, but if you call yourself a "Gamer" like it's your identity, that's a red flag.

The reason "It's priced in!" is a meme is because the people who are supposed to price these things in continuously fail to price these things in
Andy_B_Goode
Yeah, that, plus an American doing a trip to Vienna has at least arguably positive externalities, whereas an American driving to Walmart in a f250 instead of a Honda Civic generally doesn't.
Yes, there are people who actually need a big truck and use it to its full extent (or close enough), but also if you look around most parts of the US it's pretty obvious that a lot of people are driving bit heavy vehicles that they don't really need.

Where's that "Finland mentioned, meet at the market!" meme? I've always loved that one.

Trans-strong, assigned weak at birth

And then there's the fact that birthrates typically have a negative correlation with wealth. If expense was the main concern, you'd expect wealthier people to be more willing to have kids, but the opposite is true.

Look at this guy getting messaged first by women!
Andy_B_Goode
Yeah he has them fully convinced that they're part of the group making a freaking fortune, not the group suffering at the pump.
I don't know how he managed to do that, but the reason they cheer when he brags about being corrupt is because they believe he's being corrupt on their behalf.

Court papers say Lamb Weston has 40 per cent of the U.S. frozen potato market, McCain has 30 per cent, Simplot stands at 20 per cent and Cavendish has about seven to eight per cent. Together they control about 98 per cent of the market.
Damn, that's a crazy amount of market control among just four companies. And this is hardly unusual either: for example, the meat packing industry is similarly concentrated in just a small handful of big companies.
During COVID, people were (understandably) angry about Sobeys and Loblaws posting record profits, but I actually think we should be looking further up the supply chain for cases where big oligopolies like this need to either be broken up or more closely regulated.

Lol @ the comment from /u/Khiva in there
It's 1/256, which does seem impressive, but if you have more than about 256 people predicting elections, you'd expect at least one of them to achieve that success rate
Also this assumes each election is a perfectly random 50/50 event, but some of them were almost certainly more predictable than that (eg, 1984 was a landslide; it's not really all that impressive that his model correctly predicted the winner that time)
