On balance, people don’t want to talk to appliances or chat bots. VC works, but it interferes with music and conversations. It’s not a luxury. Buttons and knobs are the real luxury.

Works right now, ask again after 30,000 miles.

I understand the populist angst. Manufacturers didn’t ask for the tariffs. Manufacturers believed they had fixed material costs while also having contracted prices with their customers. If a manufacturer makes 20% when all is said and done, they are doing well. I have a very small manufacturing business and between inflation and tariffs, we made 6% last year. I would have done better if I just invested the money spent in an index fund. We received our first tariff refund check last week. It’s not just tariffs, precious metals have obscenely priced. Parts that used cost $.20 in gold plating are now over $1.00; the single most expensive item in the BOM. Manufacturers have to raise prices to buffer against what the unstable tard will do next. Sure, big manufacturers are sitting well, but the smaller guys are getting rocked.

Our daily rhythms tend to put aspirational things to the side. I hope you are able to enjoy the car. If you are looking for inspiration on the Fiat, check out Garage Time TV and Eldest Builds on YouTube.

Jiffy places could do it but I would verify they have the right oil type. I Googled what oil my 2022 requires and I got this: The 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 requires Volvo VCC RBS0-2AE 0W-20 synthetic oil or Castrol Edge Professional V 0W-20 as a factory-approved alternative. If these are unavailable, you can also use 0W-30 or 5W-30 ACEA A5/B5 synthetic oil safely.

There is always a lot of discussion about this on Reddit. One camp says the 16k km/10k miles is fine and the other says change it more often. The more often group says it is because the 4 cylinder engines work harder and the oil cooks in the bearings of the turbo when the engine stops. The turbo gets hot because it is essentially a weak air compressor forcing air into the engine and compressing air generates heat. Auto engine start-stop makes it worse. The naysayers say the engine design takes this into account. Are more frequent oil changes prevent a very costly problem in the future? Sounds plausible. It is physically easy and cheaper to change the oil and filter yourself if you have ramps or jack stands. I change my oil at 8k km or 5k miles.

I got my wife’s 2012 C70 retrofitted with an aftermarket blind spot detection. A local car stereo store installed it. There is an audible beeper and little lights at the bottom of the A pillars. Works well.

The backup camera in my 2022 is terrible at night. I had a $100 Lamtto backup camera and Car Play display in my old 2013. It was phenomenal.

I see another debut disaster in the works.

I didn’t know Saab did that.

It’s not my thing but it is apparent many people like it.

The return of Shaun King.

That is how I feel about the twisty engine start knob. Now if they put it on the side of the steering wheel and had a slot in it to place your key in it…..

I had one of those round attachment clips holding the grill fascia pop out and fall into the hood mechanism. I had to prop the inside the cabin pull latch with a screwdriver and finagle the hood to open it. I pulled the clip out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Yes, the older refraction type on my old 2013 XC60 was light years better than the camera based system on my 2022:XC60. I’ve had it recalibrated several times to no avail.

My wife’s 2012 garage kept C70 gets compliments everywhere we go. When they see the interior, some marvel at a lack of a giant screen.

Apical-Meristem

How did you make out? I just got a silver 1982 Fiat Spider 2000 as a project car. The interior is red, too. It’s not nearly as nice looking as your example but I am excited.

The AAOS version in my 2022 does not have the option to display the speed limit, have avatars (don’t care about that), has fewer background options, no waypoints compared to when I use it through my connected iPhone.

Apical-Meristem

Yes to this.

I love my 22 except for the infotainment system. I would suggest any subscriptions (Sirius, etc) be on your phone and not the car.

Apical-Meristem

I ran the update hoping it would stop the need for nearly daily infotainment resets. So far so good, but Google Maps wanted me to sign in, of course there was Google error after Google error. Having to deal with poor tech in a parking lot is so luxurious.

Apical-Meristem

So I got the new OTA update and had to log back in. The Google Maps, I presume AAOS version, is no different than before and is still lacking features that I get with Google Maps on my iPhone. Perhaps it is a variant for Volvo so they can be keeper of features? I see so many people driving with modern screen festooned vehicles with phones mounted on the dash. I think there is a lot of frustration out there.

Apical-Meristem

I’m installing the update tonight. I hope it can positively impact what has become a near daily reset experience for the last month. FWIW, I love Volvos but I won’t buy another one unless there is a sea change in the tech experience. I wish the new CEO the best. If he is reading this, I would trade 5 Gemini for 5 knobs and buttons.

I mark nickel plated brass parts with a cheap 20W Commarker B4. It came with EZ Cad2, which is good enough for me. We have marked about 10,000 pcs in the last 2 years with it. No issues.

I will check, thank you.
