Make sure CPU boost is on (on other handhelds like the claw 8ai egpu performance i was getting terrible performance til I turned the CPU boost on)
May not behave the same for the oxp3 but at least it's something to try
Appropriate_War637
Not a playstation fan but that looks pretty damn good to me. Nice work!

I did try installing optiscaler using optiscaler client but remnant 2 crashes before entering the game. I get to the character selection screen but that's it
Appropriate_War637
Just tried it with a morefine G1 mobile 4090.
Worked great, no issues connecting. Was just using it with the internal screen ( the most bottlenecked way possible) and was very happy with performance.
Appropriate_War637
The op must have connected to the controller connector - the controllers don't have their own battery - or potentially hadnt tried it
Appropriate_War637
Makes sense. Wonder if optiscaler can inject xes franegen in, 3 times franegen would probably sustain 120.. if it worked
Appropriate_War637
I refused to use potato so was running at low

I have the oxp3 downloaded and tried this.
I was in the phantom expanse and could not get settings that would maintain 120 FPS.
Best I got was about 107/110 in outside areas with long distance views, 130+ in indoors.
Had to go to ultra performance ( it didn't seem to have performance) and this was with xess upscaling but using fsr 3. Doesn't seem to support xess fg.
Swapping to balanced and it was about 88 FPS in outside areas but looked better.
For me the game felt really smooth and I'd be happy to play like that if I liked the game.
But if you want to judge a device on the performance of one game that doesn't properly support xess and choose not to purchase because of that then you definitely shouldn't buy this device.

Comparison videos require someone to own both devices. That rules out most independent enthusiasts.
The YouTubers big enough to get loaner units tend to get them at different times... So they do a tonne of videos for one device and a tonne for another but may not have a window that overlaps of having both before passing on the loaner unit to the next content creator.
No conspiracy or embargo. ( Although I was very suspect of people with loaner units only doing videos with low settings for the g3e).
Personally I would just Google for gamename and device for each one and look for performance at similar tdps.
Although I wouldn't do that because the tdp performance is known.
G3e is efficiency king, 388/395 is performance king when you throw more watts at it, with a tiny intersection of a few watts where they perform similarly.

I went to watch the video, saw it was FPS vn and left immediately.
Should be called fake FPS vn.

Gonna get some hate for this but I got the oxp3 on Thursday and I doubt I will pick up my go 2 again.
I miss the trackpad and the quality stand but being able to run games at higher settings and higher FPS makes better use of the beautiful oled panel.
I'm not even going to go in to the efficiency side of things.
Appropriate_War637
Any games you are particularly interested in seeing gameplay of on the oxp3
Appropriate_War637
This game is my favourite game of the year so far.
Was genuinely sad when I completed it. Would honestly buy any dlc they released for it.
Appropriate_War637
The thing I noticed about eta's video of this was that he didn't compare the performance at 35w. I'm betting there was next to no FPS gain forcing the CPU to 45. I tried 40 watt Vs 35w on shadow of the tomb raider ( highest settings 1200p).
1 FPS - margin of error. It was entirely unscientific one run each, but that performance curve is pretty much horizontal at these tdps on the g3e.

Also after doing this go in to the window setting and enable Xbox mode. Mine was still turned off after doing the onexconsole option mentioned above
Appropriate_War637
I own both ( the oxp3 arrived yesterday) and honestly I don't think I'll pick up the legion go 2 again.
The oxp3 has the power to get more out of that beautiful oled display - plus games look better as you are able to run them at higher settings , or the same settings but with higher FPS, or in a lot of cases both.
You also can drop the tdp to really low levels and still get great performance in some games that a couple of years ago were hard to run... So getting more playtime.
Take a look at techguybeau's YouTube channel. Look at his oxp3 videos - and he really comprehensively shows you how capable this device is.
Now I know I'm gushing about this device but a big negative is that if you get a device with a problem or that develops a problem that can't be fixed with a part you are going to have to send the device back and forth and incur costs doing so.
Having said that I bought 2 egpus, an X1 8840u and the oxp3 and they all have felt well built and never had a problem with any of them.

Mine has this on the left side fan. I live with it, turn sound up to cover, or headphones as I tend to play round family and they inconsiderately want to watch TV while I play :)
Edit: this was a device from launch
Appropriate_War637
Get rid of cat problem solved :)
Seriously though, probably not doable but can you do some sort of hinged bracket that swings the egpu out at an angle so it allows maximum air into the go ( and may even act as a stand then pushes back in for travelling with it ( after cooling down).
Appropriate_War637
Probably better than anyone else :)
Appropriate_War637
I was downloading 3 games onto the mini SSD. Picked up my device and my pinky finger found its way on to the SSD cover. It was painfully hot, but not enough to burn.
I suspect it will heat up for any sustained activity. Unlikely for loading games but downloading for sure.
Appropriate_War637
Thanks for this, looks like I should be in the first batch.
Appropriate_War637
I ordered quite early on but down know where I am in the queue. Order id doesn't seem to show it.
Anyone know how to see this after you've ordered?
Appropriate_War637
Any resolution stuff you can edit in the config/ini file?
Appropriate_War637
I would if MSI had been clear on release dates in the UK. And also remembering the farce with availability of the 8ai release I've gone for the oxp3.
I've bought from onexplayer a number of times with no issues but am prepared for any support hassles if they happen.
Give yourself a swift kick up the backside and get it turned on and just install a game and play. It's not difficult.
Ignore all the debloating and tuning setup videos. Ive notice that more and more steps get added over time and that for the most part you don't notice a blind bit of difference.
I look forward to your next post - where you berate yourself for taking so long to get set up and how much fun you are having and how surprised you are at the performance :)
