Honestly, after moving up from Dallas, the main thing I miss is good barbeque...

Stationeers has an asteroid belt start where you're floating out in zero G, building your own space base

Arcodiant

Y'all need more Triffids

Arcodiant

100% agree - he does the most incredible work, then pulls out an airbrush and drowns it all in glow from a random plasma pistol

"Oversized development"

Oh you...

Arcodiant

Okay, that makes sense - I'm curious what synthesis you're doing that is complex enough to merit hardware acceleration, but that's completely independent of the existing GPU path so it would work

Arcodiant

The opposite, really - big name engines are primarily built with human interfaces and editors, so the AI has to circumvent those to some extent. Meanwhile I had an LLM read my (code-first) engine and embed markdown docs and example code in the packages, and then it was trivial for other agents to use.

"He's like, 'That's what these are called'. I'm like, 'I have never heard that before in my life. What the fuck are you talking about?'"

I don't know who this guy is, but I'm already a fan of his work

Arcodiant

It's definitely possible, but it only benefits if you have a GPU-accelerated task that won't fit on the specific hardware in the machine. If it does fit, you'll save time in data transfer just running it on the GPU direct then passing the output to the render pipeline.

It might help if you had a CPU -> GPU Compute -> CPU -> GPU Render pipeline, but I'm not sure what that would be for.

I guess my question is, what would make them "Tevarin" ships when they'd essentially be human ships? They might have Tevarin designers, but they'd be using human tech, be taught in human schools etc.

Even during the wars, Tevarin tech was lagging behind - it was their doctrine and stable politics that gave them the early advantage.

Arcodiant

If someone won't answer that question directly, they've already let federal politics leak into state politics

I'll indirectly respond to some of the other replies that question how practical this system is:

In the UK, there is the concept of Party Political Broadcasts. The public broadcasters (TV/radio stations, etc) are required to make time available for PPBs. Any party that is registered, has at least one elected representative and is contesting a meaningful number of seats (I think 1/6) gets a share of that advertising time. This time is free, and you may not advertise at all on TV or radio outside of that time.

It's great. Money isn't a meaningful factor, you get enough ads to know what a party's manifesto is but you aren't swamped by constant attack ads, and the looney fringe have limited access, if any.

Tevarin exist within the UEE but their culture is largely extinct; the First Tevarin War is what created the empire in its most anti-alien form and ended Tevarin independence.

If you were to see new Tevarin ships, it would either be as a niche line under a human manufacturer, or as a brand new interest that was "rediscovering" Tevarin culture - still entirely with UEE tech.

Warhammer 40k is itself what happens if Dune, Judge Dredd, 80s UK politics, the British Empire, the Fox Terminator/Alien universe, Tolkien-esque fantasy and Lovecraft had multiple babies that disagreed with each other.

I wouldn't stress too much.

The individual sales are usually okay, but if you stack the discounts by upgrading from one ship, to another then another etc, using a discount each time, you can build significant savings over time. Check https://ccugame.app

Arcodiant

With the prefamulated amulite base?

Arcodiant

What up, my Nutmegger?

Arcodiant

Connecticutian (like "elocution") sounds far more natural than "...cutter" anyway

Arcodiant

"Unnecmanteau"

It's true, I also married this guy's wife because she's awesome

When I read the title I was sceptical, but that list has some serious heavy-hitters; will definitely be checking it out, congrats!

At this point, I feel like we need to move on to creating a directory of MUD directories

Remember to send the book back in time so your present self can see how your future self wrote it

Vulkan is more than "OpenGL" but verbose; OpenGL is explicitly a graphics API, and it internally uses hardware-level concepts to implement the graphics processes that it exposes. Vulkan is a GPU API, and so your software uses the hardware-level concepts it exposed to implement graphics, or compute, or whatever else you feel like. You have significantly more control to configure the entire pipeline, and especially the memory and data flow, than OpenGL gives you.

Hot damn, you have my original games from years ago - thanks!
