Also i thought I'd include my drum setup for this song (also with period accurate snare lol) https://imgur.com/a/s5yFE59

Thanks! I recorded it digitally in audacity by overdubbing my guitar, drums and vocals. To get the live room sound I drenched every track in reverb. As for micing, I mic's my drums with 2 Shure m57s. I stood them far away and stayed away from close micing for a more open sound. As for guitars, I used by SG with a boss katana and single mic'd it once again with my M57 My vocals were captured with a similar mic placement. It was really a blast to record and I'm looking to recording an A side for this single soon!

Thanks!

Let me know how you like it, me and my band might record an album like this🙏

I actually prefer the thinner body of a squier but didn’t like the electronics so I put a parted MIM loaded pick guard in. It’s has the thin squier body shape i like and sounds just as good as any fender!

Check out Klaatu they have quite a few. You would have a field day with their first album it's great!

Most bands in the Midwest and East Coast (including the Velvets) primarily believed the hippie movement to be bullshit. A song I think encapsules this is Ego Trip by Boston band Ultimate Spinach, while their sound is different from the Velvets , the song shows the damaging effects of LSD instead of encouraging it. Their song "Plastic Raincoats - Hung Up Minds" takes more direct hits at hippie culture and describing how materialistic it is. Their whole first album just talks about how hippies didn't really know anything about actual drug culture and just pose as it and do drugs because it's cool, the same people who bought Velvet Underground records to look hip and never listened past Sunday Morning.

But in defense, the SF music style was awesome, and Ultimate Spinach drew large inspirations from their sounds. It was more often than not the people who dug into the music to pose a certain way or view it as a one-way trend. The Velvets were more realist with their depictions of drugs and didn't show them as something cool or hip, they were honest with it and utilized drug use to create more abstract interpolations of it instead of falling into the corporate trends following surface level drug culture.

Sounds watered down 😭

It was unintentional too. I was dicking with the synths in Guitar Center and I came across it lol

Brian or Carl😭

The orchestration sounds similar to the ones of this guy called Peter Knight, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a straight sample of one of his pieces lol
