I'll push back against the idea that alcohol somehow unlocks the “real” self of a person, because it's dangerous on many levels, and more importantly, not true at all. An awful drunk can be a very good person, and yes, alcohol and drugs can and do cause people to act disgustingly.
That said, if you are an awful drunk, the onus is on you not to drink. It's still his responsibility.
I do sympathise with him somewhat for losing such a close friend of his early this year, which can make it hard for him to face his alcoholism problem. Still, it is still his responsibility to do so, his alone, and it also seems this problem has been going on long before Matt died.
I don't get the comments about “Geordie Creep”, I feel cheap name-calling is a poor way to name and shame right now, and it also insinuates that this was the expected behaviour from him. I am disappointed, very much so, and while I think Laura deserves much more sympathy, there's not much else to say about her (other than the fact she deserves to be left alone), so I'll say something about Geordie Greep — I hope he gets a grip on himself and addresses this drinking problem and disgusting attitude. I hope he also has better friends than Laura, not because he deserves it, but because no one deserves “friends” like the one who shared the flyers, especially Laura. And Greep will need some good friends to get over his toxic, self-destructive, creepy, sleazy and hurting behaviour.
Also, I sincerely hope this is truly a result of his drinking problem, and not something more sinister.
I don't feel comfortable passing any moral judgment beyond this point.

Funnily enough, it's the other way around in my country. Smaller venues are able to keep a couple of well-vetted guards on the books, but bigger shows need to hire one of the big agencies, and those are usually full of some power tripping assholes.

Several artists post in this subreddit, and we do not want this subreddit to be a place for witchhunting against AI or harassing them for proof of work. Falsely accusing a piece of art or artist of using AI, including implying it with statements like "this has AI qualities", will result in a ban.

No matter whether it's Stephen or Gillian, these are some sad news. I hope everything goes well for Gillian and them both, and that she gets well soon.
Apart from that, can I just quickly highlight how well-written of a statement this is? Such a misunderstanding can be so easily sensationalized or further misunderstood. Gillian wrote it with care to avoid such confusion, and with care for other people who are "living with cancer", as she put it.
Absolute class act.

I agree with the general sentiment, and I (for example) wear a mask when I'm under the weather; I also think that framing the question around Americans as a whole is weird.
But I also think that it's a fair observation that some leftists have started wearing a mask as a political statement or to virtue signal they are not right-wing. "Fascists are against proper health care, fascists think masks are some grand conspiracy, I wear a mask, therefore I am not a fascist."
And I quite frankly think this is dumb and counter-productive. And dare I say it's also dangerous to feed the narrative that face masks are somehow political. I don't want common sense health measures to become just another left-wing virtue signal that is putting off my grandma from wearing a mask in the hospital while waiting for her eye surgery; I want to see Trump, Hegseth, Vance and the whole lot wearing masks when they need or have to.

Sure, the top 10% of the players playing in the 10 best leagues in the world. But I think people are really not appreciating how normal of a wage an average professional football player is making. It can provide financial stability and is often much better than the average salary in the country they're playing in, but very few are making tens of millions, let alone hundreds of millions.
And it can all come crashing down due to one stupid injury that for most other people will result in nothing else than a few weeks off of work.

Mason Greenwood
I know you're not being pedantic for the sake of excusing Greenwood's behavior, but I think the following must be mentioned to expand on what you said:
It's very much not uncommon for victims to drop their claims if they are in a relationship with their assailant, unfortunately. And in the case of Greenwood, we have very horrific audio of him yelling some things at the victim that I dare not repeat in here, but basically confirms to me that he's at the very least capable of rape. Emphasis on at the very least.
Mason Greenwood was arrested, there was a case against him, and the only reason the case did not proceed was because the victim withdrew her claim. That's what people mean by saying "being found not guilty does not mean innocent". Here we have nothing but a picture and a story, not even a released police report or a statement, which is the important difference.
AvalancheMaster
I see what you mean but that last part does not exist independent of the rest of the problems.
It's not just that it may be traumatic, but it also removes their agency and their voice. It can also lead to perception of false allegations, say if the victim comes out with their own recounting of events and it differs significantly from what's being shared here (which can easily happen even without any malicious intent by the people resharing this story).
These contradictions can have an effect not only on public sentiment, but on legal proceedings as well.
Of course, there's also the fact that Yves Tumor also deserves not to have rumors spread about him this way, even if he's an abuser. It's a hard pill to swallow that an abuser deserves the right not to be judged based on a retelling of a retelling of an event, but as the many different sayings go, these rules and principles don't exist to protect the people we like, but the people we dislike too. As sad as it is that I don't find it particularly hard to imagine this story being true, it's still two degrees of hearsay (and if it gets picked up by the media from this Reddit post — three degrees of hearsay), and I don't think that's something substantial enough to paint a full picture of Yves Tumor as a proven abuser. Unlike, say, the video of him groping Angel Money. That was not a rumor or hearsay, that was documented on camera. But stepping on someone's head is a whole other level of assault that also needs more scrutiny to be addressed properly.
To put it simply, moral outrage is not necessarily a moral good, even if a moral transgression has potentially occurred. It's a way to make us feel good and righteous, and not a way to uncover the truth, empower the victim and pass adequate judgement. Also, sharing someone's private communication that in turn is sharing a third party's very intimate and traumatic story can also be a moral transgression by itself.
AvalancheMaster
The Instagram story says a police report has been made, but the title of the post is "Yves Tumor Allegations Surfacing + Police Report". However, the post contains only the allegations, and no police report.
I personally find this misleading. Before I opened this, I thought a police report had also been released. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Regardless, I find this very voyeuristic and inconsiderate of the victim. Keep in mind this is not someone (even if anonymous) directly making allegations against Yves Tumor, but literally a story of a story. We don't even know if the victim is okay with this going public.
AvalancheMaster
But it's not the victim we're being asked to believe here — it's a third party to a third party to the victim. The original third party didn't even clarify whether they were given the OK by the victim to share this story.
Once again, read what I've said. I am not saying this has not happened. In fact, I specifically state that if this has happened and if there is indeed a police report being shared filed, this reckless proliferation of this story can end up hurting the victim. We are not owed an advance scoop on allegations against Yves Tumor more than the victim is owed the ability to actually file a police report and take legal actions against him.
EDIT: Also, what the hell does it mean "don't see anyone saying it's a fact here just see people believing the victim"? How can you believe what someone's saying, but think it's not a fact? That people believe the victim has been sexually assaulted, but don't believe a sexual assault has taken place? What?
Let's keep Credo quia absurdum to theological conversations, shall we?
AvalancheMaster
“People should know”, but it's been posted as a close friends story from an unknown Instagram account. I understand the identity of victims should be protected, but can we at least wait for an official police report to be released, or a news article by a reputable source?
Random screenshots of unknown Instagram stories news are not.
And just to reiterate that I'm not trying to downplay the allegations, as they are serious. But I feel uneasy about the way this is being shared and discussed as a fact (the “+ police report” in the title, for example, when there is no police report in the post, just a claim of one). Especially since this is a story shared with close friends — something usually intended for a private audience — and has now been shared publicly for all to see by a third party. Keep in mind things like these can end up hurting the victim's case, for example giving the abuser the heads up to prepare for the police report.
These allegations are serious. Go to the police. File a report. Contact reputable media.
EDIT: At this point due to conflicting information I've found I'm not sure whether Yves Tumor uses he/him or they/them. I might have used incorrect pronouns, but without any malicious intent.

There is a big project that just got publicly announced yesterday that seeks to reduce contrails by redirecting airplanes away from humid cold areas (which is where contrails happen). The project uses AI recognition to identify such areas.
To be fair, most of the reactions I've seen have been positive, but there has been a very significant loud minority who deride the project for using AI, along the lines of “this will lead to mid-air collisions because AI tends to hallucinate”. These people cannot differentiate between the regurgitated propaganda slop fed to them by illiterate finance and tech bros, and actual real-world use cases of a very specific, tailor-made technology that uses machine learning.
I cannot vouch whether the project itself has any chance of success, but surely reduction of the greenhouse effect that contrails produce is a more noble goal than generating AI slop for vague financial or political propaganda promises?

On your last point, I often feel that some people here have a hard time putting a value on culture.
I think I agree with you on this one. Culture is hard to quantify, and people in here like to quantify things. How can I explain to someone that a "drab 30s apartment block" is worth preserving because these buildings were the first buildings designed and built by the first generation of Bulgarian architects, and paid by the people who ended up living in them? An artifact of the birth of Bulgaria's very own national and cultural identity!
What really gets me is that the same people who make fun of them as "boring" and "drab" want to replace them with even worse and more faceless edifices which are not designed to survive in the long run. They fail to see the fact that they are only drab because they've been neglected, and replacing them with new buildings doesn't mean the new ones will not get neglected. At that point it's no longer an argument of "maybe it's worth tearing down a 40-year-old warehouse that's been derelict for 20 years", but "out with the old, in with the new". And I don't think this is what yimbyism should stand for.
Funnily enough, one of the biggest YIMBYs in Bulgaria right now is an ultra-Orthodox MAGA-like conservative, homophobic, blood-and-soil nationalist real estate developer who organizes early "straight anti-pride" fascist marches that coincide with the Pride and only serve to terrorize attendees of the actual Pride event. He views his victory over concerns his company's questionable "Bulgarian Golden Age" irredentist-coded high-rise is poorly planned and will create tons of problems for the urban development of its region as a victory over European liberals, gays, and atheists.
This same building will dominate Sofia's skyline, and will have an Orthodox temple on top, with its very own church bell that will be heard throughout much of the surrounding area. A clear symbolic representation of the religious hierarchy Miryanov seeks to impose on society.
Maybe, just maybe, replacing your existing culture with the architectural culture of such a person might have an effect on the wider culture of society and influence it in ways that would prove to be very much not liberal?
Just a thought.
But then again, maybe cultural artifacts are after all irrelevant and not worth preserving. We don't want to be perceived as NIMBYs, after all.

I came to the article expecting it to be about mixing differences between digital and vinyl. It is not about that.
Still, I do want to point out that sometimes differences are necessary, even good, especially when it comes to the mix. This has nothing to do with the article at hand, other than it being about "differences", but it's worth remembering vinyl is a different media altogether, which requires its own attention and tweaks.
Also, I am all for physical releases getting little quirks — a bonus track is the obvious classic of choice, but a new mix, a changed beat here and there, something new that is exclusive to those who buy the vinyl is definitely something I admire. For example, the 2023 repressing of Ulver's Blood Inside has a very different mix, intentionally so, and although it's substantially different than the CD or digital version, it still not only retains the spirit of the album, but provides a slightly different perspective on it. I am no expert, but I think the new mix emphasizes qualities which are better suited for a vinyl release (more crisp sound of the percussion, especially bells and triangles, lowered bass levels). I've come to prefer that mix over the digital one.
It's ironic how instead mainstream artists seem to be going for offering less on the vinyl than on streaming platforms, where their music is essentially "free". And then we wonder why people stick to Spotify…

Same with the second league in Bulgaria (Mr. Bit League). But that's true in other countries too. In Finland, for example, the top division is named after Veikkaus. The main difference is that Veikkaus is a government-owned betting agency.
