Amusingly the person referencing him was from the Mirror Universe

I feel like I'd have just put the $100 they spent to do this towards a new TV, and save myself time as well.

Assuming it's real. I'm pretty cynical of this stuff when there's no "artifact" for others to observe or review. Like, I could take a screenshot of my 2008 LG TV with a Nintendo Switch and say that "I turned my LG TV into a Nintendo switch with Claude" Sure, maybe you are skeptical because I just have screenshots showing Switch content on a TV- but once I showed you a QR code pointing at some arbitrary IP address "192.168.20.5:4443" or a stationary screenshot of a new dashboard, what choice do you have but to believe me?

You could combine hover boots with jumping in the original with backflips/side flips. Though, they might want to prevent any kind of jumping since that was part of a number of unintended sequence breaks. I'd expect it to just cause Link to stop hovering in that case.

Wolvereness

I remembered this name from something, had to look it up.

This is the person who issued a DMCA against the craftbukkit and spigot server mods when Microsoft bought Mojang.

Not who I'd expect to be a mod of that subreddit, to be honest. Though, not sure who I would have expected, I suppose.

Would you prefer she interrupt you with unskippable dialogue like the original does for climbing vines or opening doors?

For terminal illnesses and the elderly I think it makes sense.

I'm not super convinced of the aspects relating to mental illnesses though, as I think a lot of those realistically meant you aren't in a position to be providing informed consent.

Most of the "horror stories" are actually pretty illuminating to how little people regard others suffering. A Grandma will get MAID in Canada and then her whole family gets together for an interview with some rag. "I just don't get it, We were super close. When we last saw her 3 years ago she seemed fine, I can't believe she'd consent to this"

"What did she say to you in your last phone call"

"Well let's see I think it was a year ago she called me. she was still so full of life, she was disappointed she was being rejected from some game show, called "like this". "I can't go on like this" And I felt so bad. But I can't imagine somebody wanting to be on a game show would go for assisted suicide."

My personal favourite was one news article where a family member literally said "He was in pain but it wasn't that bad" You sure about that? Because they, the person experiencing that pain, signed off on assisted suicide, so maybe it was? You can tell they were repeating that bullshit to the person before they died too and minimizing their suffering, it's no wonder they went behind their back to have it done.

In fact, I developed a heuristic for assessing the obsolescence of an encyclopedia set in various libraries, I looked up Rhodesia and checked if it said "Rhodesia is a country in southern Africa" or "Rhodesia was..."

Seems easier to just check the copyright dates near the front of a volume

I use Office 2019 so I don't think I've even used an Excel version that supports xlookup, apparently it came later.

However, the most I usually do in excel these days is open the exported data/files from the software I work on, hardly worth paying $200 for the newer version.

I think Carmack is (or was) against software patents, not copyright. Open Source is only possible because of copyright; abandoning copyright would mean releasing to the public domain, not putting it under a GPL or BSD/MIT license.

I for one welcome our Amelia Bedelia overlords

"I'm actually so confused, other than accepting taxation without representation, what exactly do you suggest we do?"

-Somebody in 1773 probably

Whenever somebody comments about "omg what a dirty house" I just imagine them as that WOW guy from South Park

From what I can find the Mod is from July, what this video shows is somebody using AI to improve upon it, though they don't offer a download for their version. (Not clear if the Original used AI or not; it has some "AI-like" code comments but it doesn't disclose using AI tools.)

Because they do.

Most C/C++/Java conventions use K&R style with the brace at the end of the line starting the block, You could easily ask the same question about them, in reverse.

code is data anyhow...

Oh cool, I'll let everybody know we can all just shelve the whole idea of being "Data driven" because duh, code is data!

Sure, but I don't see how any of those assumptions are in any way unreasonable.

1. That having a "Team lead" and being a technical founder suggests that perhaps there is a desire to have multiple customers

2. That a customer may want labels to look different at some future point in time.

3. That a customer may want to use something other than a Zebra Printer

I don't see how any of these assumptions is problematic.

why are we pretending that wasn’t cool as fuck

Because we aren't 14?

The entire thing was completely faked, making it nothing more than a pointless special effects show.

Even if it was real it's pointless, because none of this flying car bullshit is going to be road legal.

The idea of flying cars isn't cool, it's fucking stupid. A lot of people already have trouble obeying traffic laws in two dimensions, adding a third isn't going to make things better.

Fish: "Oh my god you guys, I can't taste! I think I have Covid!"

Fish 2: "Relax, it's probably just a tongue eating louse parasite that destroyed and replaced your tongue"

Fish: "Oh, whew. Was worried for a moment."

It seems to depend on the specific machine. I think some people were probabilistic outliers and only ever saw machines that worked one way or the other. For myself, almost all mine worked the stupid way where the light being on and presumably indicating "Turbo" was enabled meant it was slower.

I have a 486 DX 66; it can be toggled between 66Mhz and 16Mhz.

If the Turbo Sw. Header +/- matches the pins, than the button being pressed illuminates the turbo light, and it runs at 16Mhz; being unpressed, the light is off, and it runs at 66Mhz.

I can't get it to work the sensible way. I tried. I can flip the switch header and put it in backwards, in that case the button being in means it's running faster, and out is the slower mode. However the turbo LED is still illuminated for the slower mode, which makes no sense.

I thought then I could also simply flip the Turbo LED, but then it just never lights up.

Conversely, I also have a Pentium-75 that while it lacks a physical turbo SW, the LED reflects whether the fast or slow mode is selected via keyboard shortcuts.

Another interesting thing I discovered while researching this was in Upgrading and Repairing PCs, 8th Edition (1998); It calls the turbo switch a "de-turbo" switch for some reason.

I'm not sure why but there seems to be people who have only encountered machines that work one way, and others that have only encountered it working the other. Or maybe there's just statistical outliers who have only encountered it one way or the other and refuse to even allow for the idea of the reverse.

Speaking personally, I'm one of the outliers as all my PCs with turbo switches have worked one way- the indicator labelled as turbo was illuminated/pressed in when it was running at the slower speed. And when you have a label, I think it's sensible that the light next to it being illuminated means that is "on"; When the light next to the "power" label is illuminated, Power is on. When the light next to HDD is illuminated, the HDD is in use, when the light next to turbo is lit, turbo mode is on. My 286 ran at 12Mhz with the Turbo switch, which was both the toggle switch and a light, turned off, and when it was on it ran at ~8Mhz. I know this because naturally when I first got it, I turned Turbo on immediately- button pressed in, light on, etc. (Why the fuck would it come with this turned off, that's stupid!) It was only when screwing around with the button while the computer was doing stuff that I discovered that it ran faster when the the button was out and the light was off. My am386 system worked the same; when the Turbo light was illuminated, it ran at 12Mhz, and when it wasn't it ran at 40Mhz. My 486 had a set of digits instead of an on/off indicator, but the switch was a toggle switch; when it was in it ran at 33Mhz, when it was out, it ran at 120; I currently have a DX2 66 And Turbo toggles between 16Mhz and 66Mhz- again, the faster speed is when the turbo button/light is not active.

The only machines I've dealt with personally where the light made sense (eg turbo lit in faster mode) were later systems- in my case a Pentium 75. It has no Switch header, but you can use a key combination to turn it on and off (Ctrl Alt + and Ctrl Alt -). In it's case the LED illuminates for the faster mode.

The big thing is I think the orientation of the turbo switch header controls whether turbo is on when the button is depressed or when it's out. However my DX 66 has +/- labels on the header and when they match with the motherboard pins I get the behaviour I described- it's slower when the button is depressed. I'd have to "incorrectly" plug it in to get the more sensible behaviour where turbo is actually faster... Though even then the light is illuminated in the slower mode, the button is just not pressed. I tried flipping the turbo LED header itself too but then it just never turned on. So definitely seems to be something with particular systems.

of course, nobody, I hope, would argue it makes sense that turbo mode makes the system slower, regardless. That's just, for some reason, how a bunch of machines worked.

Very interestingly, Upgrading and Repairing PCs, 8th Edition (1998), repeatedly calls it the "de-turbo" switch, even though nothing labels it that way. It seems to me to be an acknowledgement that it works weird on a lot of systems.

I fill my free time, I don't budget it.

There is a scheduled task which by default will nag you to run this every few months. I think it's a checkbox under "Customize Desktop..." in display settings.

Where are you seeing that? It isn't in the linked article or the Nintendo Everything Article it is based on.

I don't think the comments add anything here because frankly none of that code should exist. It should be data. I mean, What if different clients want different appearances? Are you going to make a special function for every client and special case it or something?

The way our label printing works is through a configurable template file and replacement fields and indicators. the print language code, EPL, CPL, ZPL, whatever... is generated by processing the template file.
