Download thief 2 installer/backup from GOG. Then download the porting kit https://www.portingkit.com/download

Install the porting kit and search in the games tab for thief 2. Through the porting kit you can easily install the game and even launch it without having to start the porting kit first.

You should be able to transfer saves between two identical copies of the game. I just did it yesterday. Are you sure you downloaded the right region + update on the 2DS LL?
