Because the super wealthy usually travel with friends and family. Average people usually dont all have enough money to trip together. Also travelling in cheaper areas where you're not having servants care for you the whole time. So you naturally end up interacting with locals or other travelers more.

If you've ever travelled to a country that doesnt speak your language, likely you've attempted to learn a few words before going. A rich person is absolutely not going out of their way to do that, and knows theyll be accommodated by english speaking servants the whole time.
