Financial Analyst roles and Data Analyst roles have really started to merge over the last 5 years.

Honestly i think it was mostly luck. I was getting desperate enough to apply to every job including 5-days on site within 45 min of my apartment.

Waking up at 7am and filtering for jobs on LinkedIn and indeed that had been posted within the last 24 hours, tailoring my resume to the job posting by using similar language and highlighting specific experiences I had that I felt applied to the job description.

One posting just so happened to be very similar to a role I had previously held from 2017-2020. I think it was more luck/playing the numbers game than anything specific I did.

My degree is in accounting but I’ve always worked in corporate finance (specifically Financial planning and analysis). I have 8.5 years of experience.

The morning I interviewed for my new role I received a rejection from another pretty cool job that I was really interested in and I felt like I nailed the interviews for it. I wasn’t in a great head space for the interview and tbh I didn’t think I did that well. It wasn’t the worst interview I’ve ever had but I was definitely rattled and in a bad mood from the rejection I got that morning. Yours could be just around the corner.

One thing that helped me was writing down questions from previous interviews that I didn’t think I handled very well. Used that experience to craft better more thoughtful answers and I practiced reciting those while showering, doing chores, etc.
