No, that is not correct. The rod/skyscraper will always bend, even if only a little bit. If you press down on a spring on a table, the spring doesn't diminish the force. It transfers the exact same force you apply on the top to the surface of the table below. Same for the rod. The surface where the weight makes contact can locally compress a bit, but the full force is still transferred throughout the entire rod and will make it bend.
