I agree that it is to signal more than any old trade deal between the EU and non-EU member.

But there's a lot of room between free trade agreement and "must adopt the exact same laws and become part of the EU".

Most of what I listed above are not even entirely trade related. Participating in Erasmus, or having better youth mobility (working holiday visas), space program collaboration, critical minerals investment, are largely outside of what you might generally consider part of a free trade agreement and are certainly not currently covered under CETA. Canada's participation in any of those will not require adoption of EU laws.

And even if the EU were to seek out regulatory harmonization, there is always mutual recognition, regulatory equivalence, and adequacy decisions (GDPR already recognizes Canada's PIPEDA as adequate).

And I also don't think it would be in the Carney government's electoral and political interest to surrender sovereignty to the European Union as a response to the United States demanding Canada surrender sovereignty. Pretty sure they know they'd get absolutely roasted if they tried that.

So far it doesn't seem like Canada and the EU are pursuing anything close to "Canada must now follow EU laws".

From Carney's speech this morning, it appears the areas of collaboration will be:

  1. Critical minerals and strategic value chains
  2. Defence industrial integration
  3. AI, compute and digital infrastructure
  4. Energy security, including LNG and hydrogen
  5. Space
  6. Payment systems
  7. Seamless goods and services trade
  8. Youth mobility
  9. Erasmus+
  10. Horizon and research integration
  11. Integrated financial services and capital markets

None of which would constrain Canada's continuing nation to nation negotiations with First Nations.

I can't think of many instances that people were called idiots for pointing out Canada's low levels of capital investment, below average business R&D per capita, or low FDI.

I thought rural schools usually ran during the summer and took breaks during Spring planting and Fall harvest season?

If it has sentimental value your best bet is probably rent an Enterprise/Avis minivan or pickup truck and drive it there yourself, and drop off in Montreal for extra fee.

Belaire

Arguably, the other way around.

When you've eaten out at a restaurant, have you ever noticed or remembered any solo diners? Did you feel any particular way about them?

Population growth and urban growth are related but not necessarily identical in movement. The shrinking population could mean smaller municipalities andd rural areas are unable to be self-sustaining after a certain point, leading to increased urbanization.

India in Korean is Indo; India in Japanese is Indo.

That's basically the same thing as what you said in reverse.

And you can change your court language under the Laws tab too.

How did you manage to form the HRE? Presumably your antagonism was massive after conquering everything around it like France, Denmark, Italy, Hungary etc, (assuming you didn't conquer inside the HRE) no?

Belaire

In all likelihood, there are probably far more immigrants performing MRIs than receiving the MRIs, so cutting down immigration is not likely to reduce wait time for MRIs.

Malaria is mentioned 17 times in the wiki article on this marsh. It's endemic.

Conquering cities often nets you a handful of paintings.

It's a one time debuff that decays over time. So if you're using it, you gotta use it essentially right before you declare war.

If you try to make them contiguous such that the little vassal is bordering the big vassal, they'll often annex it for you too.

Debt is still countries' friends in 2026. IIRC the only country in the world without any sovereign debt is Lichtenstein.

They cost imperial ducats to build, not your own, so they're basically free.
