Thanks captain

Here's the thing. I've been good at pandas in the past. I am not anymore. But I know what pandas can do. I can steer an AI to use pandas for the things pandas can do.
Why is there a need to keep practice hand-rolling pandas going into 2027? I don't really care anymore.

Some language schools use a romanized spelling that students, even after explanation, do not seem to grasp.

That leads some of them to treat every ต as an english aspirated T, or every ป as an aspirated P etc... which makes my skin crawl, especially when you pair it with random tones.

It's not uncommon that "เขาตอบว่า..." gets turned into something like atrocious like "ข้าวทบหว่ะ ..."

For many foreigners, it sounds close enough, or like you said, a bit off center, but to a Thai not used to hearing it butchered like this, it's complete gibberish.

Better_Log484

Absolutely is a thing. Seen it in a lot of places. Icon Siam has a whole floor dedicated to local craft and products.

Better_Log484

Except it hasn't been this bad in 15 years. Is it uncommon? No. But it's also not your average rainy season. There's levels to this.

This is the way

Your questions are slightly ignorant, especially as a new grad. But you seem to be aware of it. For example, your 3rd question has been solved for a few years already. Grabbing current documentation has been a goto-method for a while, e.g. via context7.

Any speaker in 2026 has a right to be at least annoyed, when the question brings up points from 2-3 years ago. You can’t help it but assume bad faith.

Better_Log484

Any source for that number? This is quite a claim.

Does not have to be an office space. There’s actually a lot of variety of places in BKK where you can do meaningful work outside of your own 4 walls.

Better_Log484

I am an introvert. I love some office spaces. People leave you alone. But I also get to go outside. Being just at home is depressing.

Better_Log484

“Community curated” will make you just revert to the mean the larger the community becomes.
I rather have it opinionated. Curated by you only or a very small set of people who know their tastes and don’t cater to anyone except the people you understand.

Better_Log484

It’s a nice view. Other people here need to get a grip. You don’t know how good you have it.

Better_Log484

I am celebrating it. People whine either way.
Can’t do anything right.
Might as well just do the right thing anyway.

Better_Log484

It’s simple. Just live your life for you and your close ones and stop caring about weird internet people. You don’t need to share your things anymore. It’s sad but that’s the world now.

Misleading. Paying $10M to win $1M is hardly an incentive. The math isn’t mathing

Better_Log484

I’m glad I wasnt the only one who noticed. Wow

Better_Log484

How though? Logs do not record sessions.

Oh sure, that's how I learned English for the most part as well. School wasn't helping me that much but once I started consuming media I liked, it came naturally. But going from decent to good in English is noticeably different in Thai.

The thing with Thai is that it can work like this too, but only once you get past a certain stage, before it's too frustrating. It's way better to know enough Thai to understand and participate in conversations in real life, not just understanding roughly going on but actively expressing your thoughts and opinions.

It really helps if you have a repertoire of speech patterns first, and you recognize them in basically every Thai-Thai interaction, even when they talk "too" fast.

From your post, you didn't seem like a person who just wants to get by in Thai for the next decade.

Additionally, with English in particular, even when you don't understand everything, context clues go a long way. This is particularly difficult in Thai when in many situations, it's even hard to understand what (cultural) context is there to begin with or is being missed. The more you learn Thai, the more you will notice of some little oddities. Or things that should on paper, but are being said differently irl. Not having grown up here puts every learner in a disadvantage. But it can be picked up, from real interactions of real people, not even necessarily from TV, but it helps too (documentaries, infotainment etc is particularly good).

Not sure about your past though, but I believe, if you would have studied German in school WHILE living in Germany and having regular German interactions, and studied content YOU have chosen yourself from a diverse set of media, more would have stuck for sure as well. Nothing beats immersion + active engagement imo.

Consuming Thai media and studying for the purpose of language acquisition are two very different things.

You don't need to watch a movie or show for entertainment and at the same try pray you learn by diffusion. Instead, it would make much more sense, to pick a scene or situation from a show, like 30-120 seconds of content max, and actually study it.

Watch it once without subtitles, full speed. Then watch again with subtitles. Then, for 30 Minutes, study the content, notice vocabulary, speech patterns, make notes. Then read the whole script alone. If it's a dialogue, maybe let one person speak and you answer as the other. Then watch again, with subtitles. Use English subtitles first, then Thai (or the other way round). Then again, without. Just switch it up as you go. Compare your knowledge state before / after. Schedule a review for the same scene a few days later or move on to the next. Then use some of the vocabulary with your favorite แม่ค้าพ่อค้า or talk to yourself. You won't ever start "thinkink" thai without a good amount of talking to yourself.

There's also podcasts, shows and way more on youtube as well. There's tons of movies and shows online. I do not care about any of it at all, but you can pick a show at random, find a situation and context where your passive vocabulary is still lacking, and just study it. Don't do it to be entertained. Learning Thai is the entertainment. Everything else is most of the times lying to yourself you're studying while in reality you just want to switch off and feel productive at the same time. But the hard truth with Thai especially is, if it doesn't feel like at least some effort, it won't stick.

edit: And DO NOT use dubbing. Except for cartoons of course. It's not natural. People not only don't talk like this, but having body language (or body), voice, lips etc seperated from what is actually being said, will have a detrimental effect on your thai learning. You can't learn Thai by watching a white person talking English on mute on screen with someone else talking over it. Sure you can pick up some vocab. But so much more is being completely removed, or is just unnatural.

Better_Log484

It's a solved problem already. You just won't see it when you're just using any general model that doesn't have access to proprietary data.

You guys are weird. Everyone is talking about the apparent lack of spacing, but is no one noticing the complete lack of any tone markers and most vowels?
