I don’t know what you’re going off but for me being in Australia and who just bought a 48gb, 1tb, m5 pro 16” the difference is $5,699 for that versus the PROLED XDR same specs for $6,399. so $700 for this specific scenario.

I’m still gonna do it, particularly cos I want the lighter chassis and better display and this will be a laptop I keep for ages.

BigStugots

in the same boat as you, so here’s my thoughts:

I just bought a 16" MBP with nano-texture display and will be returning it for a PROLED XDR. I'm going through the same thought process as you as this time I am wondering if it's even worth going nano-texture.

So without getting into the new devices, one thing I will say is nano-texture on white/light backgrounds looks a bit gritty, almost dirty. It's just the nature of it. But it makes me feel like my screen is dirty and I constantly want to clean it. On dark backgrounds however, it looks great. I would say if you use dark mode during the day, it is way better than on glossy (glossy picks up a lot of reflection in dark mode). For me, I use light mode during the day and dark mode at night, that's my preference. So the gritty-ness of the white backgrounds does bother me somewhat.

The other thing to keep in mind with the new PROLED displays is that they now go to 2000 nits peak brightness, so perhaps that will offset some glare.

Lastly, because of the nature of nano-texture, there will be added grain, and I feel like that will detract from having a super bright and vibrant OLED display.

I think personally am leaning toward getting glossy.

BigStugots

OLED screen has double the brightness (2000 nits) and 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio which means it’s basically a reference display now. it’s also thinner and lighter, which on the 16” is very welcomed. those things alone are worth the money.

BigStugots

it absolutely is worth it. i’ll be returning the 16” MBP I just purchased. for me I’m happy to pay extra for the lighter and thinner design, oled screen with increased brightness (double the brightness outdoors), which means I can ditch nano texture now. so the screen itself is going to be a huge upgrade. and the ugly notch is gone. I thought the price was going to be worse tbh, and now I’m excited.

BigStugots

the new 16” oled almost weighs the same as the old 14”. it’s thinner and lighter for basically no downfall. oled. notch is gone. what else do you want?

BigStugots

nah you’ll be fine mate, trust me. you don’t lose your skills. they’re inherent to you as a human. as soon as you’re in an environment that’s got life energy and demands of you, you’ll come back to life yourself.

BigStugots

the 16” is so much better than the 14”. I went 16 > 14 > 16. the 14” felt so cramped to use and work on, and like a toy. the 16” is better for me in every category. yeah it’s heavier, but it doesn’t bother me, because what you gain more than makes up for it. keyboard travel feels better on the 16” too. it’s very subtle but I picked it up. battery is amazing. never getting a 14 again.

BigStugots

The black colour sucks, what can I say.

BigStugots

Your beliefs are the problem. There is absolutely nothing to reconcile. Keep meditating.

BigStugots

I literally just bought a new MBP 16”, getting delivered this week.

I don’t care about OLED or touchscreen whatsoever, but I will care if there’s a redesign to the regular line of MBPs (although there’s not really any indication)?

BigStugots

Silvers the best. The black sucks. Fingerprint magnet.

Next stage is not taking your job seriously. Works not that important in the grand scheme of things. Most corporate stuff is meaningless compared to what truly matters in life (people, relationships, connection, community).

BigStugots

The trick is still to wait like a week or so and then present the work. Otherwise they’re gonna think you’re super fkn quick and then they’ll just pile on more and more bullshit work.

You gotta make it seem like it was a mad struggle to produce that work, like you worked your fkn ass off and put every last ounce of your energy into it.

BigStugots

Cool story bro lmfao

My partner is still using an Apple Watch Series 4 from 2018. Eight years old and still works great. Newer apple watches like the ultra 2, 3, 4 would 100% last 5-8 years.

BigStugots

Yeah, I went 16” > 14” and now back to 16”.

I was so disappointed with the 14”. It’s less comfortable to use overall when in my lap, on the couch, or at the kitchen table. The screen real estate is considerably less and that just annoyed me constantly. Battery is worse, I felt like I was constantly charging the damn thing. I decided I’m more than willing to put up with slightly heavier unit when carrying around and also in my backpack, the rest of the 16” more than makes up for it.

If you’re going to use it away from a desk most of the time, I’d 100% go 16”.

BigStugots

How’d you go about doing that? Curious

BigStugots

I wonder if there’s a chance it’s going to be called MacBook Duo. They said the iPhone Duo would be called iPhone Ultra, and it wasn’t. And Apple has always been against touchscreens on laptops where touching it would move the screen. So what if they allow the screen to fold backward or something? Mac + iPad = MacBook Duo?

BigStugots

Small businesses weren’t getting to use them for free. If they were paying by credit card, they were paying for the credit card surcharge on top of their tax bill.

The deal was: if you want to use a credit card, you pay for it.

Now that the government has banned surcharges, and the ATO is unable to absorb that cost (they can’t absorb it themselves, nor can they capitalise it on top of the tax bill), the option to do that is now gone.

I’m not even a small business btw. This whole thing is just so ridiculously stupid.

BigStugots

“This is a win for small business and a welcome reprieve, but small businesses remain under significant pressure.”

No, a win for small business would be no changes to the way they pay their tax bill and therefore operate their tax flow.

This dude is an absolute muppet. The type of bloke that’ll piss on your back and tell you it’s rain.

BigStugots

Yeah this has been my experience too. It’s about getting in touch with your body and nervous system, creating and sustaining tension, rather than how many reps you can do. Reps are irrelevant. It’s about how much tension you can sustain.

The 10 week program I didn’t find very useful. What was 10x more useful was just working with a trainer.

BigStugots

It’s based on anatomy trains by tom myers.

BigStugots

I have a reverse S curve scoliosis (38 degree lumbar and 34 degree thoracolumbar). I started FP just over ten weeks ago, been working with a FP trainer who has scoliosis himself.

Honestly, it’s been a game changer for me. In these ten weeks I’ve been able to reduce my chronic left hip pain to the point where it doesn’t make me sad about life (used to be in massive pain everyday), my sleep has improved, digestion improved, posture has improved massively! I can tell my spine is lengthening and decompressing because I can actually see it on my back now. My partner has been commenting telling me how much better my back looks. I have no way to tell if it’s “fixed” or done anything to the scoliosis itself because I haven’t had another x-ray, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it has. Can tell my torso is stacking better / more centred over my body. Haven’t seen any changes to my rib hump / rotation yet, but early days. One of the big issues with scoliosis is lack of Intra Abdominal Pressure being able to protect the integrity of the spine during movement, probably due to a weak core. The stuff I’ve been taught is all foundational principles that I’m now carrying into my everyday movement and sports.

I read a lot of negative stuff on the internet about functional patterns before I started. I think people either don’t understand how it works, or maybe even don’t have enough of dysfunctional mechanics to benefit from it (but somehow I doubt that one). I went in with a completely open mind and have been very surprised with the results ive got, and now only keen to keep going.

BigStugots

I chose silver because it’s the most handsome, clean and simple colour. Black looks cheap and tacky in my opinion.

BigStugots

Garmin these days charge way too much for what their product is. Plus, their software is rubbish.
