Sounds promissing.
Bigfoot0485
That sounds promissing. I also have sporadic USB issues...
Do you have any idea, how to find out the right CCX? Which one is it in your case?
And do you know if I can use more cores, than the one of the right CCX?
I have a 3900x - so I should have 2 dies. And these should have each 2 CCX - makes 4 CCX in total. I _guess_ the cores of each CCX are in sequence to each other (so 0...3 or 4...7 and so on...) In this case I have to test exactly 4 combinations.
Do you know if the CCX of the PCIe lanes of the GPU is the same as the one for USB controller?
Bigfoot0485
where shall I send it to? (can I attach files to a reddit post?)

Thanks for the recommendation. (I am having OMV for NAS purpose and didn't plan to change yet)
But is TrueNAS a hypervisor? Isn't it bound to ZFS? And if so: Doesn't ZFS require the same modell of disks installed, if you want to span an raid(-like) array?
Bigfoot0485
I am running Win10x64
Bigfoot0485
Of course. I just added it to the post.
Bigfoot0485
Thank you u/nagi603 and u/bryansj,
the thing with the USB dongle is also for me a pain in the ass. On the other hand, it came anyhow welcome, because I only had two NVMe. And I was only able to clean one of them. The other stays untouched as long as I can't go "productive" with my unRAID setup. (That's how I switch from bare metall to VM, to make a compare)
If proxmox isn't taking a whole disk, it may become interesting again. But as I mentioned somewhere else. I will give unRAID a chance during its evaluation period. If I can't get it working sufficiently, I give proxmox the chance as the fallback.
Bigfoot0485
I am currently reading it. Sounds well.
Do you know if Win11 can be installed without a TPM module?
Bigfoot0485
Do you see the screenshot, I just attached to the original post?
Bigfoot0485
Thanks, but this would make no sense in my setup.
I already have a NAS based on OpenMediaVault, which has (sorry community) with LVM a more reliable solution. If its not more reliable its sage to say, it should be more mature than the parity solution of unRAID. (which I don't use at all)
The charm of unRAID is the built in Docker support in the WebUI and the community addons, which seem to be easier to use.
Furthermore, I got a swarm of 4x Raspberry Pi4 for Docker devlopment and my home automation stuff.
But yes. Proxmox is the second on my list, which I am going to try, if unRAID doesn't work for me. But I try my best to solve the issues with unRAID in the evaluation period. If it fails, I fall back to proxmox. Thanks for the recommendation.

ted 6. Remove the 3 pinned but un-isolated cores. My understanding is instructions might have to wait for the host OS to resolve first on un-isolated cores and this can cause significant performance hits for gaming.
I gonna give it a try, while this would explain a penalty on the CPU score, I can explain why this should give a penalty on GPU score.
Bigfoot0485
It is. There are so much things to do - and moving to Linux for gaming is not in my Top10 (while its still in the list of potential todos ;-) ) That said, I can append, that I am working and developing in Linux on a certain skill-level. But I never tried playing. ;-)
Bigfoot0485
I've no experience in gaming on Linux. But I am interessted such an attempt.
I use a software called "Aquasuite" to manage the watercooling of the rig. This Aquasuite thing needs a windows driver and the software is only available on windows. Not sure if that can be emulated.
Bigfoot0485
My intention was to set a whole die for the VM, so that at least these cores would share the same cache.
As there are 6c CPUs out there, I'ld wonder that this is an issue. But I gonna try.
Bigfoot0485
I just attached the GPU-Z screenshot.
It sais, that it rund on 16xPCIe 3.0. Thats not perfect, but should be sufficient. (Because my mainboard doesn't offer PCIe 4.0 - and it should be the same behaviour as on bare metall.
Bigfoot0485
Yes it is.
Bigfoot0485
Hmm. The VM setting of the VM is set to "Yes".
In Windows I looked into the optional Windows Features and found "Hyper-V" to be off. There is also a "VM-Plattform" Option, which is also not checked. And there is a Windows-Hypervisor-Plattform, which is also not checked.
Did I miss any? There is also a Windows-Sandbox, which is activated. But I guess, its not VM tech, isn't it?
Bigfoot0485
I just checked the Option "Hyper-V" in the VM's configuration. It is set to "Yes".
Bigfoot0485
Yes, I think so.
I guess you mean the option on
TOOLS > System devices
?
There are two entrys check and have a green dot in front of it:

Am I right, that proxmox requires its own dedicated boot hard disk?
Bigfoot0485
Which diagnostic do you mean? 3DMark Benchmark?
Bigfoot0485
I will check these things, as soon as I am on the machine again.
From what I have in mind:
- Yes, Hyper-V should be active. (what does it have to do with GPU performance?)
- The Nvidia driver I remember, I found in apps was for the case, you _don't_ want to passthrough your gpu to a vm (that what the description said)
- I am not sure, if I installed GPU-Z yet. Gonna do that.
- The BIOS File is installed in the VM configuration. (Otherwise I was not able to boot the VM at all)
Bigfoot0485
What has NVMe to do with the GPU?
As far as I can say as a newbee, I fully passed the GPU with its soundcard through... (by choosing it in the VM's section of the VM and tweaking the XML representation of the VM template)
Bigfoot0485
I know about the types and that kvm is a kind of hybrid. And probably proxmox performs better. But I want docker, not the container solution of proxmox (forgot its name).
Its no problem for me if 10% of performance is missing. And 8% if I'ld go to proxmox. But I want all in one and more than just 45% performance.
If it stays at just 45%, I go back to bare metall.
that's incredible!
Haven't heared about that. Dawn...
But what's about non-steam games. I am playing e.g. Star Citizen. Can non-steam games be installed and run in the container too.
Star Citizen is still in alpha and doesn't hook anyhow in your system. It could probably be startet from a thumb stick...
