Somewhere in the 6-9 months range. An AI actually suspected this before an actual doctor did and, dare I say it, gave pretty accurate advice. I had low iron levels initially which led to an alternate diagnosis initially.

It just correlates with activity levels for me. If I'm getting it regularly, it probably means I need to adjust pacing down a notch. Also though apparently high histamine foods are a problem. Just generally the simpler and less processed the food is the easier it digests.

I don't really know as my main bottleneck I believe is cognitive from my work, but I do know that a 10-minute walk to the supermarket and a 10-minute walk back carrying ~10 kg of groceries a few times a week is not a PEM trigger at least on its own. When I have been healthier I was doing an ~40 minute walk on a weekend alongside 30 minutes of modest leg strength exercises which seemed manageable at my best. I'm in a down period now though after a run of viral infections caused a crash cascade so I'm in a bit of a preservation mode. I don't think I'd be walking 20k steps without crashing, or at least I wouldn't risk it. Higher end days are probably more like 8k steps and I probably couldn't do that consistently even at my best.

I wasn't the very top of the top at school but close to it, and I got a PhD around 4 years before I went down with ME/CFS. I'm very lucky it landed me a good job before I went down and I can still work there in a part time basis, but it has slowed my career progression to essentially stagnating (although I'm fortunate enough to still be useful working part time) and life in general has been in a bit of holding pattern for two years now.

I'm also on the autism spectrum which is a risk factor for this and I wonder if it's a particular archetype of high-masking, 'successful' autistic people that tend to get the condition. It sucks, and I'm not even in the moderate group where it gets much worse, let alone the severe group, and at least I did get it after doing my doctorate, settling into a job, etc.

I very much feel for you and hope you can recover to at least a moderate severity level and start getting that part of your life somewhat back.

Surely this would be an easy job to do by hand. Even Newton's Cradle physics simulations surely already exist that could be adapted.

Often something about how I actually tend to be overly optimistic with managing it which can lead to PEM. Management is brutal, improvement is very slow (and I'm very lucky to be able to improve), and pacing needs to be very conservative.

I've just come off the taliend of a cascade of crashes following viral infections that had me essentially lose a year's progress in recovery and I think it's taken a while for people to catch up to the idea that I need to wind activities way back to stabilize. I'm the most pessimistic person in pacing myself in my family group and I'm still too optimistic much of the time.

Data centres draw massive amounts of resources while employing very few people. Unless the tax revenue potential is huge or if maybe if the AI companies are subsidising a renewable energy build-out to power itself and the surrounding neighbourhood then I don't see why we would want this. Particularly in a highly speculative market that's looking like a bubble. We should have bargaining power here, not the AI companies, given the pushback against these in other places.

BinaryPill

I still don't have a problem with it outside of it looking bad. The whole complaint with AI is that it rips off artists and undercuts them, but Devin was clearly already pushing his budget and paying a ton of real artists for the production. It's more skimping out of necessity than out of greed or anything, and he had to still pay someone to quickly throw it together. Aesthetically, nothing was probably better as the AI tech is too immature to produce anything good, but ethically I don't really see the problem. Maybe at a stretch it's plagiarism I guess because of the training process but then all art is derivative.

BinaryPill

I suppose the thing here also is the US economy should be roaring with the AI boom (at least right now - a crash seems like a real possibility). To botch the economy while in the middle of a massive tech boom is one heck of an achievement.

It's time... for Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite!

BinaryPill

Corey Feldman's Angelic 2 The Core is very close to 5k ratings and the next highest is Former Child Actor at 225.

BinaryPill

Looks like the era of enshittification is starting. It's been a good run.

BinaryPill

Shark Fin Blues should be on any respectable "songs to hear before you die" list. I probably have it top 20 all time, certainly top 50.

BinaryPill

Through the Fire and Flames on Guitar Hero 3.

BinaryPill

Dream Theater - Octavarium kinda fits.

Also both songs from Moonsorrow's V: Havitetty (technically the second one has its escalation point 13 minutes in and the first one has its more explosive moment 18 minutes in).

Main pattern I've noticed with myself is that bloating is often more of a sign that I've been overly active more than it being a specific food trigger. I think there's a phenomenon where the body just doesn't allocate enough energy into digestion sometimes. One thing I have done though is split dinners into two meals an hour apart and that works fairly well.

BinaryPill

Very slow and it just feels like activities that I can just do more without feeling tired and knocked out. I just feel less drained for the same activity more consistently.

BinaryPill

Morning Glory by Oasis maybe? For something that's supposed to be the best selling album of that year you want something pretty accessible, and the sound/production would be mind-blowing for the time.

BinaryPill

My default model on free tier Gemini is still Flash 3.6 for what it's worth.

BinaryPill

There;s a little bit of a Dream Pop influence to it. Maybe something like Slowdive - When the Sun Hits even if that's not quite a perfect match for it.

BinaryPill

For me it's going by timing and not by feel. Figure out what my body can do sustainably and stick to it, only attempting to increase in small increments after long periods of stability without PEM. Also not trying to push through brain fog and always resting for a while after physical activity even if I don't feel tired.

BinaryPill

I've always found it weird that the 'throwaway' live covers sound better than the main song. Actually though the covers sound better than almost everything else they've ever done. Not that I think A Change of Seasons sounds notably bad (the snare isn't great but not terrible imo). It's just early enough that the loudness war doesn't wreck it.

BinaryPill

I suppose one thing for me is that I present pretty much as healthy when I'm out and about with people but just don't have any endurance and fatigue quickly. I think the swinginess between appearing as normal one moment and profoundly exhausted the next would be good to capture, and I'm at my most tired when people aren't around me.

BinaryPill

In my experience every indication is that it's completely random.

BinaryPill

Yep, I definitely get this, particularly in the late stages of coming out of a crash or otherwise when I'm just barely able to concentrate. From what I gather it's reflexively tensing my face to focus and causing muscle strain. Also autistic. Also I thought your explanation was very clear - you're articulating yourself perfectly fine.
