“They gave you permission to drop out of school.”

That is the only concerning behavior your parents have exhibited. Get an education.

My father was 19 (late 1960’s), following his freshman year of college. He was home for the summer working for a florist delivering flowers, driving a flat nose van. He was stopped waiting to turn out of a business onto a four lane road, a car going 60 mph clipped the front of his van. My father’s right leg was 95% severed between the ankle and bottom of his calf. There was a photo of his shoe a 100 feet from the crash. When they got him to the Operating Room, gave him the anesthesia, asked him to count down from 10. He got to three and heard the surgeon say “I give this kid a 1% chance of keeping this leg.”

Amazingly, they saved the leg. He learned to walk again and led a mobile life.

You will NOT make it to the Show. Work hard on your academics. If you enjoy playing, continue. You should play other sports, have other interests you pursue.

Here are the extended highlights of last nights game, the one you claimed had a 150 off balance swings. LOL. The only swings that appear remotely off balance are when the hitter gets fooled. Outside of that, 90% of these swings are perfectly balanced.

Glad you are a fan of the game. Enjoy it. Don’t dole out terrible advice to kids about hitting. It’s okay to just be a fan.

Mookie…Balanced or Insanely Powerful

Bo-Ethal

Funny, when I go on Google and type “Enter Dude Who Raked” and “balance while hitting” I keep getting the same type of results. Wonder why?

Truthfully, I knew what Gwynn thought about balance while hitting and Williams and R. Carew, and C. Lau, and W. Hriniak because I’ve read all their books on hitting.

What book is it that you have read that was written by someone who played or trained a player who achieved “Insane Power” through weightlifting? I would love to further my knowledge.

Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn taught that balance is the foundational first key to hitting a baseball successfully.

Ted Williams taught that maintaining strict balance at all times in the batter's box is the foundation of a good swing, pitch recognition, and power.

Normally I would provide more video, anecdotal evidence to support my position. However, given the genius insight you dropped below:

“Swing is good. Get insanely powerful.”

I know I’m dealing with a real GURU!! You are right, hitters are WAY off balance, look like they are on roller skates, falling all over the place.

Question: How does one become “insanely powerful”?

Bo-Ethal

Plenty examples of guys having a “Career Year” during the steroid era. See Brady Anderson’s 1996 season stats. 50 HR’s that season, next highest total…24!!! In 14 Big League seasons, Anderson went over 20 HR’s 3 times. 50/‘96; 24/‘99; 21/‘92

Hhhuuummm. Looks balanced and “Insanely powerful!!”

Lower half is a bit sloppy. Hold your finish. Are you balanced? Are you recoiling? Are you falling over? The goal is consistency, which is impossible to achieve without balance.

How many schools are you vaguely familiar with only because they play football or basketball at a reasonable level? There are many ways to quantify value beyond monetary.

There was an interesting article I read about Gonzaga University. When Mark Few got the men’s basketball program going to March Madness regularly the University experienced this financial windfall through TV money, alumni giving, advertising, but they also saw huge gains in applications to the University. More applications means higher admissions standards, mean higher tuition, means more prestige for the University, better rankings, more grant money.

I grew up watching Bobby Bowden dominate college football. That University completely transformed over Bowden’s tenure. Athletics can completely change a University, which is why school send so much on it.

The Tsars ruled Russia from 1574-1917. Then the Communists took over from 1917-1992. Now they have Putin. Essentially, Russians have not been able to publicly speak their minds in over 500 years without risking death.

Title IX killed a bunch of Men’s Soccer programs. Title IX led to the creation of a bunch of Women’s Soccer programs. What is going to happen now that college athletics are paying athletes? Every dollar a program sinks into college soccer (sport that loses money), is a dollar that could be spent on football or basketball (sports that generate revenue)????

I recruited at the University level for a decade. You know what made players standout??? The ability to play the GAME!!! To think a coach will look at you because you have yellow shoes is RIDICULOUS!

I formerly worked with 18-23 year old hitters. At 18-19, the goal was to get them to transition their “Cage” swing to the field. I felt like at 18-23 you would see most hitters developing self-awareness/ sense of their swing. Hitting is the most difficult thing to do in sports. It takes a lot of time, reps, maturity to get to a point where you actually start to “hit”. Most players don’t play long enough to get to this point.

Looks Great!!

Love this. Thanks for sharing. Refreshing to get a post about mental approach, mind set, tactics, confidence building. Awesome. Oregon State is a great program. Bet it’s an awesome place to play.

Too much coaching. Leave him alone. Let him swing. If he starts to get technical/ mechanical/ down on himself tell him to take a deep breath, forget the last swing, and be aggressive in the next one. He is mirroring others being too mechanic oriented.

Palace is going to be in a Relegation Battle this year. Maybe Gozo will be play in the Championship with Palace next year.

To be fair, even the most talented athlete still has to develop sport specific skills. There is a lot of work that goes into what these incredible athletes do.
