Growing up I used to think my Dad was such a good driver because he was always "avoiding so many accidents" and "close calls." Once I started driving myself I realized there shouldn't regularly be anything you're avoiding.

85+ as a 13-year-old is wild. I didn't hit 85+ until my sophomore year of college. Times and training have changed.

Same thing. I keep being told in the first round that they loved the chat and want to pass me on to the next round, only to then hear nothing ever again. I feel like I’m pretty personable and good with words, and I’ve only ever gotten positive feedback, but thus far no cigar. At least I’m getting interviews now, that wasn’t always the case.

If there are less than 2 outs, 1st and 2nd, grounder in the IF should be a double play. The only time it's not is when you get a perfect storm of slow runner on second, and slow-ish grounder to the shortstop's backhand. Then they will often throw to 3rd. It just doesn't all work out that way too often. Usually better to guarantee an out at first.

This is not lost on me, but thanks for the reminder.

The Isle of Man TT needs to be banned. I know everyone knows the risks, but we're allowing people to kill themselves every year. It's a bit beyond the realm of other risky sports activities IMO.

Insane to me that this is required for entry level, but you're not wrong, this is the world we live in.

The framing around employment has totally flipped. Instead of, “who should we give an opportunity,” it has become, “who will bring value to us that we don’t already have?”

If you can’t prove to them that you’re bringing new value, they usually don’t care. For new graduates and entry level people, that can be nearly impossible without going out and creating your own successful thing.

They’re also looking to “say” they’re hiring to look like a healthy business or justify an internal promotion, data farming, looking for a unicorn candidate because they can, or repeatedly reposting the same role at lower and lower salaries until they find the cheapest they can get a reasonable bite.

I know those don’t help you land a role, but they’re the answer to your title question.

When it’s in the right lane, many of those people aren’t the most comfortable drivers to begin with. (If they were they’d be going faster in the middle / left.) Therefore, many of them feel more comfortable being directly behind the car in front in order to help them line up and control their car by essentially copying the car in front. I’ve known bad drivers who unconsciously tailgated because they felt it helped them stay in the lane. (Not justifying, just explaining. It’s incredibly dumb and those people shouldn’t be on the road.

If a company is cold calling me, my first assumption is that they’re an MLM. Either way, beginning an interview on the spot without any research or specific preparation is never a good idea. It’s a lose lose no matter what. Heck, we send out so many apps I don’t remember half the places I’ve applied.

Well you have to state it in the job description then. And if I have some skills and think I can do the job well, I'm allowed to take a flyer and make a case for myself.

I'm not the one who chooses to schedule the calls. All I ask is that recruiter reads a resume beyond a quick glance before scheduling a call with someone.

Bonbeanlio

Half the time the recruiters running cold hits don't know the first thing about an industry, they just found a keyword they recognize on your profile.

Same thing happened to me earlier this year. 3 interviews, a reference call, and they told me essentially I got the job, they just needed to send the formal offer. Well apparently HR then informed them they were no longer allowed to hire for the position.

You see, to me it's the Honda Insight for most of the reasons stated. Accord space, Honda reliability, and hybrid gas milage, without the Accord name recognition. Only downsides are putrid performance and odd looks, but that's not why you're buying one.

Damn I should get that right, I’m literally an editor.

It's literally a public forum of evidence that you might be difficult to work with. She of all people should understand that.
