Oh, you're never getting those without being senior management with a serious track record.

And in this market, at this time, trying to negotiate that is likely to undermine the entire offer.

BrainWaveCC

And what did that have to do with whether or not networking works?

The employer always wants what they want.

BrainWaveCC

Once you give notice, the employer is not obligated to align with it. But it doesn't change the fact that the employee initiated the separation.

No one is saying you have to like it, but that's how it works in reality.

BrainWaveCC

If you're that adamant about it, then what's there to second guess?

BrainWaveCC

Avoiding it would have been best.

That ship, having sailed, it was vital that you report it. If they had noticed it first, both of you would be jobless now.

Actually, for now, AI-generated formatting is still pretty easy to detect, but that doesn't mean the post is slop.

It could just be someone relying on an LLM to clean up their language and grammar.

Networking isn't magical. And it's not instant.

People treat it like a grocery store rather than an orchard.

If you want a fruit right now you can go to a grocery store and purchase one right now.

But you can't start planting an orchard this week and expect fruits from it next week.

A network is not in lieu of experience. It's about helping you find and access people who need the experience you have.

BrainWaveCC

It's 2026...you can absolutely build a strong network without being born into one.

I know many folks who have strong professional networks that they didn't inherit, and are not based on family recognition.

The can describe the event (like they did here), without posting the actual audio. Posting the audio would be both unnecessary and counterproductive.

BrainWaveCC

Don't ask any such thing.

If they were providing severance, OP would be told. And no one provides severance when the worker is the one that has resigned.

And since OP resigned, unemployment is a highly unlikely outcome.

BrainWaveCC

You resigned.

Depending on where you live, and the type of job you have, they may pay you through the time of the notice you have, or they may not.

BrainWaveCC

Sometimes you have an epiphany, any sometimes it's just the gradual reduction of momentum.

BrainWaveCC

It will be harder this time around. For Y2K the majority of the systems under consideration had seen very little change from when they had been written until the mid-to-late 90s.

There are not that many systems sitting around unchanged today

BrainWaveCC

Someone who was 20 at the turn of the century is less than 50 today.

What retirement? And why would they need to be out of the industry?

BrainWaveCC

We're not discussing managers across industries, though. We're discussing the perceived value any single org receives from its managers vs is non management staff, as evidenced by comp structure.

Just pick a number that you can live with if the work is what you expect it to be based on the job description. This is not an "application filters" issue. No matter what technology is involved, the employer is trying to constrain what they pay on compensation.

There's no way around it but to pick the number you want, and let things fall where they will.

Because the alternative is to pick a number you think they will accept, then complain later that it was lower than what you really wanted if you actually get selected.

BrainWaveCC

Many times, it is not the whole industry you need to leave, but an employer. And be on the lookout for that same kind of employer when you job search -- so you can avoid them.

In the meantime, pull back from caring more than you have to in order to be effective in your work.

BrainWaveCC

No. Don't do that. It is easy to trace. Just take screenshots from your phone of critical mail

BrainWaveCC

No, you're not limited to LE.

BrainWaveCC

Because AI is not better.

But that's not the point. The point is that if 100 people are interviewing, then the baseline for getting the job is relative to the caliber of the competition, not the job spec, which is now the minimum for even being in an interview for that role.
