manosphere/“alpha” influencers, or more specifically, their average fanbase.

Younger to middle aged guys who think they don’t hate women but consider themselves superior to them in some way.

“Heard the news about Tate being arrested, broke my heart. 9:00 - 9:15”

that’s some stupidly obvious satire. you don’t have to be chronically online to see a few videos about andrew tate or know about the “alpha male” influencers like clavicular or tate or the chud dude

in nearly all of the japanese egg cooking videos i’ve seen, the one thing I never see is salt or pepper or anything other than straight egg

BravestCashew

I mean they can either use it or sell it for $500+ profit

i made a comment in this thread but direct replying just to let you know - the official translation is a million times better than the scan/fanlations from Asura

BravestCashew

INFORMATION: Are you reading a scan/fanlation, or are you reading the actual official translation?

I will show you two examples I have in my notes comparing the two, because the official translation is far, far better and more poetic

example from chapter 99 (not exactly a spoiler but it does include a description of a key character’s psyche that may be considered a spoiler)

Asura/other unofficials (they use the same one):

||There was a sword demon who threw things like credit into a corner,
who was just a man that enjoyed reading books under the sunlight.||

vs

Official/Webtoon:

||A quiet old man, his dignity and pride nowhere to be seen…
Content with the pages so worn they seemed to remember his touch||

This is the same passage/panels

For the record, I’ve used coins for every chapter so far up to the current aside from the most recent 2 cause I’ve had stuff to do and haven’t read them yet, and it is well worth it in my opinion cause I’ll definitely read it again

sorry for the absolute wall of text I just kinda kept typing cause I kept having new thoughts and questions pop into my head

to speak from a “neutral” perspective (i certainly do not believe all jewish or israeli people are bad or misguided or whatever, but I do understand why people are… a little more open?) - i’m trying to toe a line here because I obviously do not support anti-semitism, but I can see the reasons why so many people are being so open about it.

israel (the state) is committing genocide and war crimes and refuses to admit it despite multiple humanitarian associations calling it genocide.

this is about their government, but as a result the people are being judged too, primarily the ultra-nationalistic israelites. Then the true anti-semitism starts, when people start grouping all Jewish people in with those ultranationalist Israeli people/groups.

Side note because I’ve never really talked much about anti-semitism: I find it interesting that anti-semitism is grouped separately from typical racial stereotypes, if that makes sense. For example, I feel like it’s socially considered much worse for a joke to be considered anti-semitic as opposed to being considered to be a “general” racial stereotype

Example: if a comedian makes a joke about black people, I feel like it is generally taken better (assume it isn’t flat out racist and is written well). If a comedian makes a joke about Jewish people, people are more hesitant to laugh

Idk if that’s actually true in practice, I just feel like it’s something I’ve noticed from watching many random comedians.

I’m theorizing that because of what is happening in Israel and Palestine, people have found that others are more receptive to anti-semitic/Jewish stereotypical jokes, and because of that, it causes a sort of cascading effect where people become more used to them, more used to making them, and the social “pressure” of saying something that will get you in trouble is slightly lessened.

I’m just speculating here based on what I’ve seen and witnessed both in real life and online

BravestCashew

OP is using kilos and grams and you think they’re a native english speaker/writer?

stupid comment/or

BravestCashew

there’s a difference between being woke and not being racist dude, if you don’t understand that then you’re probably racist

Heavenly Archive’s Young Master is almost exactly like this in a lot of ways

So the issue here is, you’re actually caught in Nintendo’s trap a little bit.

Games like Cassette Beasts or Nexomon etc exist and they arent bad at all! (Cassette Beasts is actually super dope) HOWEVER - Pokemon as an IP (not just gaming) is literally the highest selling IP in entertainment of all time (merch goes crazy)

It is absolutely, unequivocally ridiculous that we don’t have a TRUE modern day pokemon game. Think about it… why is Pokemon the only absolutely massive IP that still makes games that cost 20-30m with graphics from over a decade and a half ago? Because they know everyone will buy it regardless of how it looks, and everyone accepts that it’s gonna have switch graphics.

they would probably have the best selling pokemon game of all time if they made it with current gen graphics, actual gameplay mechanics/puzzles like old school pokemon worlds, and put it on consoles that can actually handle games that look good (i legit hate the switch just because it keeps nintendo from putting any effort into their games and it shows)

/rant over i hate nintendo, love their IPs

don’t listen to this guy he’s a liær

I compared a few dialogue exchanges after I caught up and had the choice of reading ahead or waiting for more episodes - in the ones that I compared, the basic meaning was the same, but the wording was much simpler and felt like it lacked the original intent of the original meaning

My favorite example from chapter 80 (this doesn’t contain any spoilers)

Bootleg:

“I’m timid and easily frightened, so I don’t think I could stand up and fight them.

I’m sweating and working hard to become someone else’s right-hand man for the day that happens

Fortunately, everyone has a right-hand man of their own.”

_____

“Raise him well.”

_____

“No.”

Official/Webtoon:

“You see, I’m a man of faint heart… and I haven’t the stomach to lock horns over such things.

So I labor instead, training myself to become the right hand for another.

Luckily for me, no man lacks a right arm.”

_____

“Mold him well in your shadow, sir.”

_____

“Yeah, no.”

the NPC wife and him actually sleeping with her every month is such a weird MC moment/trait, then he ignores the women that like him. I’m sure he grows, and I get why he has some trauma with trusting women after his ex(?) and that date where he gets all dressed up by himself and tries to flex his money, but still weird

BravestCashew

Well then you need to work on being clear in your intentions.

I was “quoting” what you were inferring by commenting everything you commented.

“What if she started the fight?” ie, what if it was her fault?

“We have no idea what caused that to happen” in reference to the assailant dragging her kicking and screaming while punching her

“He coulda caught her cheating in bed” and you were saying this to imply it was her fault (“What if she started the fight?”

“You never know in any situation” except in this situation we can clearly see who is in the wrong. What’s the point of asking who started the fight when the person who’s obviously wrong now is obviously in the wrong?

An example that wouldn’t have people getting as angry at you or make people think what you implied would be “what if she attacked/tried to kill his kid or him” not “what if she cheated on him”

BravestCashew

Feels like a decent novel idea got lost in bad pacing, bad writing choices, and (sort of similar to bad pacing) poor plot progression.

Like that sounds like a great concept, if it’s the main point with legitimate training arcs rather than “I get machine I learn everything about martial arts in 6 hours now I take revenge on everybody now that I have power”

It’s a good idea trapped in a badly written power+revenge fantasy

BravestCashew

Idk it just doesn’t appeal to me. Like I can only read the same scenario so many times in the same story before it gets seriously tiring.

Like in Nano Machine he’s just straight up torturing people half the time and it’s kinda off putting. It just feels like the author trying to create gratification and payoffs for absolutely nothing and no reason. Just for the sake of giving the MC “cool” moments.

Idk maybe I’m just too partial to the good side or hero stories. I just don’t get any or much satisfaction from those kinds of MCs

BravestCashew

I finally gave it a shot a few days ago cause everyone was saying “broooo this is the author’s 3rd manhwa, he’s improved so much, etc” and it’s literally the exact same as Nano Machine but the MC is just in a different situation

NM: “somebody killed my mom and im angry.” gets powerup and kills anyone he wants

MMM: “somebody killed my grandpa and im angry.” already has power and kills anyone he wants

BravestCashew

I mean I understand being initially apprehensive but straight up refusing is insane if you know it’s a dessert

BravestCashew

Right but I’d say that makes it work better. He’s only really interacted with people from the coalition who understand to some extent what’s going on. The general public/universe, though, might have completely different, instant hate for a Viltrumite on sight.

Even the receptionists said “Was that a mustache?” after he walked in with Allen. You’re definitely right, Allen is helping to downplay his presence by being a well-known hero of the Coalition.

But yeah Earth’s hatred of him is much more personal and specifically towards him, but they are still similar situations I think. With Earth, he’ll probably always be seen as a betrayer/evil regardless of if they knew about the war/fighting his own people. With space, I think he could be forgiven with time/contribution, but there would always be a large percentage that would hate him just for being a remnant of a species that caused that much destruction.

Did Nolan ever visit other planets with intelligent civilizations aside from Earth? And wipe them out/subjugate them? If so there’d be a few more personal connections to him specifically but I can’t remember/don’t know if he did

BravestCashew

show is good enough im sure some of em just do it for the love of the game

plus a paycheck ofc but im guessing there wasnt much negotiation in those if they just wanted to do it.

BravestCashew

Lol I’ve said this for so many games it’s unreal. For whatever reason, most mods dgaf and want it to stay. Have even said, make a pinned megathread or do like, Fan Art Friday or something. Nope. Lol

Like back when I played genshin impact for the first time, went to the subreddit and just seeing fan art while I’m trying my hardest to find a post that’s actually discussing the game, it genuinely pissed me off

BravestCashew

It’s a cult that managed to convince the government they’re a religion. Basically, they lure young people who are suffering or lost in the world into taking a personality test, which they use to hype that person up. “Wow, I’ve never seen results like this before” or otherwise manipulation. They sell you on courses and books and paying into scientology to get the next course. Essentially, it’s a social trap meant to capture vulnerable people. They’re “encouraged”to cut off family and friends who aren’t associated with the church or risk being excommunicated from the church, which works as a threat because by this point they’re likely indoctrinated or can’t speak for themselves due to personality issues.

IIRC the IRS tried to audit (?) them once and the church had members send of death threats and such to individual IRS agents, basically

I’ll link a short video explaining what scientologists believe (the source will look ridiculous, but it is actually what higher members of the church “believe” (I highly doubt most of them really believe it)

https://youtu.be/Q4EfhH_w48w

Edit: didn’t realize it was only 1 part. Can’t find the whole thing on youtube. Just click the next part if you want to keep watching, it gets hilarious lol (but again, is actually what high level members of scientology claim to be the truth of their religion)

Side note, the founder of Scientology was a failed sci-fi writer
