During an AMA with the veteran writer Darby McDevitt, it was asked to him if those "elves" were another species altogether.
The response was that, from his knowledge, there was no precursor to the precursors, but instead he suggested that we looked at it like how we have different labels for the older civilizations of our history. So...those are simply a previous society of Isu, let's remember that the Great Catastrophe happens in 2306 I.E (Isu Era), meaning that there are thousands of years we haven't seen of their kind.
But like many other plot points in AC...who knows if that seed ever grows.
BrunoHM
"All but confirmed" is a bit too strong of a remark from that other user. There are indeed at least another remake being developed, but it's identity is still up in the air.
Folks have been saying it's AC1 because of journalist Tom Henderson's report of the supposed codename (Stardust, which sparked speculation of that being reference to how "Altair" is the name of a constellation) and youtuber j0nathan saying that he heard about it back in 2023.
Both have good track records, so that's why some are that confident, but there are counter-arguments to be made: the codenames of the franchise are all over the place and have led to confusion previously (Dysnasty was Odyssey and Comet was Rogue); j0nathan has shared outdated information before and, considering the reported cancellations, that could have been another one of them.
Ultimately, I would be very surprised if it turned out to be true, since Black Flag set the precedent of them choosing easy projects for these remakes, and AC1 does not qualify at that because it would require considerable overhauls and additions to get rid of its "tech demo" reputation, but that is bound to dissapoint those that did like the original despite all. Way too many headaches for everyone involved and they are not in a position for such gamble.

Codename Hexe, Jade and Invictus are the official ones that are still being worked on, confirmed in the beggining of the year. We do not know anything new about Jade though: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/assassins-creed/news/3DdTBz0edxZ0mQ7Ub4jv85/assassins-creed-into-2026
Quebec's next game (the replacement for the post-Civil War one) and a second Remake are the projects we could expect in theory, but don't have information about.
Next year, we are bound to have a 20th anniversary event, so it is prime time for updates. Hexe is rumored to come out in the latter half of 2027, so we should hear a lot about it.
When it comes to Far Cry...well, that and Ghost Recon changed their engines and are trying some new stuff behind-the-scenes, so the silence is to be expected. We can only hope that the gamble pays off, but who knows when we hear about them.
BrunoHM
Officially, Hexe's creative director Clint Hocking left Ubisoft in February and got replaced by Jean Guesdon.
That's where the rumors come in that Jean has caused a pivot on the project and caused another delay to the latter half of 2027.
If true, we do not really know the extend of the changes, but if the game is to come out next year, it cannot be a reset. We should be hearing about it in a few months.
BrunoHM
Yeah, that one appears often when the topic of a World War entry comes up, but usually I say they would be better off being inspired by the Sniper Elite series instead, so they can have greater control over the experience with a wide-linear design in place of an open-world one.
Not unlike how the Helix Rifts in Unity/Syndicate already worked for the WW1/2 sections, where they had their cake and ate it too due to the restrictions imposed.
In the end of the day though, it would not be the first time that AC twisted its rules and "widened" its identity to make a setting work, so it's possible that we all are overthinking it and they just do the obvious.
BrunoHM
A lot of gears are involved in the decision-making. Here are a few of them mentioned the 15th anniversary book:
There is an internal list of the most requested settings by players;
Recgonizable characters and events are a big factor, speically for the countries outside of the subject matter;
Popular Media at the time can be an influence (ex: "The Kingdom" show helped them pick that particular era of Vikings for Valhalla).
The intended development time is critical (shorter ones make them rely on the predecessor to some extend, like Revelations and Mirage). Games can often happen out of a sudden necessity to fill the schedule (DLCs turning into standalone entries happened more than once because of this).
The final boss is a team in Ubisoft Paris. They are implied to have personal preferences, while also taking account the reputation of the studio pitching to them. They are also able to cancel projects after accepting them.
Looking at the above, a Roman Empire game is bound to happen eventually, but the stars never fully aligned thus far. I have to imagine that Brotherhood and, to a lesser extend, Origins/Odyssey delayed that concept for a while. It also did not help that "desne cities" were not in their menu for years over there.
With all that said, let me touch upon some things you said: in regards to a multi-era game, it's been thought of before in Unity, but after the first few months making assets for all the four time periods, they realized it was going to be too much for them to handle (the remains were salvaged into the Helix Rifts). It's also partly why Modern Day never got enough resources to stand out on its own, since the historical side required most of the attention.
If there is more than one era, there will be compromises, as seen with the kinds of Revelations and Syndicate too.
Edit:
Oh yeah, there is the Netflix show set in Rome during Nero...ideally, there would be a fitting game to go with it, but as we saw with other franchises (Fallout and TLOU), it is more likely we don't see anything of that sort, haha.
BrunoHM
Darby expanded his ideas on the matter later and it is certainly an eye-catching pitch, but it's safe to say that it has all the challenges that other modern-ish setting bring to the table: firearms, vehicles and overall more complex cities being one side of the coin, with the plentiful sources from the periods limiting creativity and nurturing criticisms being the other.
I would very much enjoy them taking the leap someday, since the Mafia series already work as a proof of concept, but alas, I understand the aversion to it. After all, they do have a number of other options to choose from that would be easier to develop.
The compromise would be a non-standard entry where they don't do one of their traditional open-worlds, like how they adapted parts of the Russian Revolution trought a 2.5D spin-off, but I think we can both agree that is not the most exciting approach. I prefer that over nothing though.
BrunoHM
Unity did not have further plans though, as far as we are concerned. The franchise was still on a yearly release schedule back then with the focus switching from title to title.
Syndicate was even going to bring the co-op forward too before the call for polish made them drop it, as revealed in the 15th anniversary book, so they always wanted people to move on from Unity, even if it all worked out.
The above was purely world-building by the devs, not unlike the many e-mails, recording and videos from the offices in Black Flag and Rogue. The confusion is reasonable though, specially with a fake leak before release that told people those "missions" were playable.
BrunoHM
This, but wanted to note that the last 3 were unique concepts by the writer Darby MCdevitt, who was having fun with the opportunity to write Modern Day stuff for Unity at the time.
Bladed Cross is about Constantine I founding Constantinople.
Jazz Age Junkies would be the roaring 1920s on North America.
Hell in Hibernia was the Irish Independence War.
BrunoHM
The scene as a whole is about Mario teaching Ezio to drop down his anger and be more respectful to his targets. It's only from that point on that he starts doing the "Requiescat in Pace" routine during confessions.
In favor of that, the letter makes Vieri more relatable while also serving as a warning sign, since it paints him as a tragic figure shaped by his absent father: "He wants to be noticed. He wants to be loved".
BrunoHM
The catch is that you have both fans and developers alike that have an apprehension of AC fully stepping into third-person shooting territory. Some believe that could be circunvented by a stealth focus, but we know that does not catch the widest crowd possible.
The other big wall is the public documents, videos and even survivors of that period. On one hand, all that easily accesible source is helpful, on the other hand, any deviation or creativity will be recieved harsher than usual. They clearly enjoyed the freedom of the far past before.
With all that said, the interest is certainly there, but they tend to tell such World War tales trought the expanded media instead (books, graphic novels, etc). You can look up the wiki to catch up on what has been happening over there.
If it ever happened on a full game, I think its best chance is trought a non-conventional entry, one that is not the open-world we are used to. We have precedence like the WW1/2 rifts we got in Unity and Syndicate, or even the 2.5D spin-off that depicted the Russian Revolution. Basically, I think it would need to be more like Sniper Elite instead of The Saboteur, so they can have greater control of the experience.
BrunoHM
When it comes to an unthordox move in 1, I am aware of "vaulting", see if it is what you are talking about: https://youtu.be/93BS2HnLaEE?is=dOX1ftdqi53f53Yh
Other than that, there is also a parkour mod for the game, but I don't know enough about it. Check the description to see if anything rings a bell: https://www.nexusmods.com/assassinscreed/mods/62
BrunoHM
Desmond did not have the option back then, but by Brotherhood, Abstergo was already fooling around with that concept with its training routine of agents, since they were controlling avatars within the simulation that were created from DNA of notable individuals of 16th century Rome (some of the folks that Ezio killed in the camapign were playable in the Multiplayer mode).
Ever since Black Flag, it became a staple for the Animus user to not be related to the historical character at all thanks to such tech breaktrought, so we just need a DNA sample from the desired indidividual or their direct descendants. For curiosity´s sake, that is also how we moved past the limitation of seeing someone´s life until the conception of a user´s direct descendant (like the player´s POV going from Hytham to Kaniehtí:io and then Connor in AC3, or how Altair stopped sharing his memories with Desmond after that one night with Maria in AC2).

Welcome back.
Criticizing AC2 is dangerous around these parts, but I can´t realy blame you. When I played it for real, it was years after the release and I did have a very rough experience, especially after only hearing praises by some fans. The catch is that this sub did convince me to keep going at it and, trought some tips and tricks, I ended up having a good time. The older games are deeper than they look, but don´t do a good job at teaching that to players, which leads to frustration.
It´s fine if you want to move on, but I will leave here the types of videos that won me over back then:

[Rogue Academy] Ezio Trilogy | Stealth Tips\
[Assassin's Creed 2] Combat-Stealth Guide
Anyway, considering how much you like Breath of the Wild, I would actually suggest another IP by Ubisoft - Immortals: Fenxy Rising, since it has a lot of similarities to that. But if you want to stick with AC, Origins and its follow-ups could be worth a look, considering their massive maps and non-linear progression (for better and worse, as you will find out).
Ultimately, this guide by the community for newcomers can also be handy, since it has certain recommendations of where to start and a summary of each entry up to Mirage, which released in 2023 (so it only really lacks Shadows and the remake of Black Flag): r/assassinscreed Wiki: Assassin's Creed Games Guide
BrunoHM
Its fate is tied to Ubisoft itself, so one ends when the other does.
But for the sake of discussion, if they were able to make an ending (even if it was just a blog post), the likely key points would have been Abstergo getting exposed and widely defeated, the cycle of Great Catastrophe is broken with the planet being safe from apocalypse, the real history of the world becomes public knowledge and the Assassins thrive while guiding humanity to a new era of enlightment.
The franchise is not really set up for a "happily ever after", since humans tend to always be at each other´s throats, but the above at least would irreversibly change the status-quo and give some finality to certain plot points.
BrunoHM
Unfortunately, we kinda of already got that trought a book instead: Assassin's Creed: The Golden City | Assassin's Creed Wiki | Fandom
It´s from Hytham´s perspective, but usually the expanded media touches upon stuff that the games either will never touch or will take a while to happen (like how they had a completely different take on Feudal Japan in the mobile game "Memories" back in 2014).
In the end of the day, Basim getting its own game was already quite the happy accident about Ubisoft Bordeaux being in the right place and time, which is hard to happen again (they were about to make the fouth expansion for Valhalla when Ubisoft´s release schedule in general was looking dire, which prompted them to get a game going somewhere).
Looking at the rumored releases and official reveals, I think the "traditional formula" is supposed to be represented by the remakes from now on, so the bigger question is which entries are developed trought the Resynced brand. We may have better luck seeing Constantinople again trought a revisit of Revelations, but it´s also possible that they skip over that (and Brotherhood) over the more popular/lucrative titles. Time will tell.
BrunoHM
It all comes down to how the franchise has multiple studios, which don't always keep the same employees, which can lead to diverging opinions and tug-of-wars trought the years. As we learned, the ruleset to govern them is rather flexible.
For instance, AC3's creative director was the one to give the infamous remark that people asked for the worst settings (World War 2, Egypt and Japan). He later explained himself that those could work, but were bad calls because we had games depicting such things before, while AC was better off picking less obvious choices (his suggestion, to this day even, was the British Raj in India).
The thing is, he left the franchise shortly after 3 and, as we know by now, others did not quite agree on the mindset, for both better and worse. In the end of the day, they till have to pitch something that pass trought Ubisoft Paris and make them bank, so I don't criticize them for the usual suspects.
Shadows' execution was unfortunate though. Even me as a fan of some of Quebec's projects was taken back by some of their mistakes. I imagine the engine update hampered things, like in 3 and Unity, but that does not tell the whole story. We can only hope that the country is revisited down the line, but who knows when.
When it comes to discussions within the community missing stuff...I can't really blame them all that much. MD has been divisive since day one and engaging with it is not always thrilling. Then, some stories and information are relegated to the expanded media instead, which can range from books to defunct apps. I still get surprised by reading the Wiki sometimes, so one can only wonder about more casual about the franchise. I keep that in mind and give relevant info when necessary.
BrunoHM
Interesting? Yeah, the files are a mix of lore, parodies and easter eggs. Even Desmond gets new additions trought them, if you care about him.
Important? Not really, since they are optional after all. Also, unsure if you aware of this, but it's also a good warning that Juno's arc set up by BF is dropped after Syndicate and finished trought the comics.
BrunoHM
The catch is that Japan (alongside a lot of other things) had references as far back as AC1 thanks to Subject 16's blood messages.
But most of those are not promises, simply inevitable subjects that the developers talk about internally and are showcased to us for world-building. It says a lot that the list itself, which had Simpsons' "Summer of Love" joke on it, did not have the right periods for places like Egypt and Japan, with the latter only happening in 12 years and 6 games later. It cannot be understated how much they don't plan far ahead over there, per the 15th anniversay book and other interviews.
On paper, the only real tease that BF could do at the time was the French Revolution, since that was being developed in parallel since 2010 and was aiming to release a year after BF. Well, that and Watch Dogs, if you want to count Blume's email, but we alrrady knew about that game at the time (despite all the ties and even crossover, good remainder that WD and AC are not in the same universe).
BrunoHM
The nail in the coffin for me was trought Tom Henderson himself, considering he was the original source.
At one point, he started theorizing the project may have morphed into Scarlet, the next RPG. Then we heard that one report about the cancelled Reconstruction Era game and Tom said that was Scarlet instead.
Such series of events pretty much tells me that he stopped hearing about it after some time, which was likely due to the pitch not getting greenlit in the first place. Pretty sure one or all of the multiplayer projects mentioned alongside it were also canned.
BrunoHM
I wished there was this energy for the Reconstruction Era one, but alas.
Truth be told, I think Destiny would have been ripped to shreds here, haha. I say that because of the community's love and hate relationship with Odyssey and equivalents.
We know little about the game, but it seemed to be another entry set pre-Hidden Ones and having fun with non-grounded stuff, as we could see in a few of the animations and the spinning umbrella weapon. That's quite the recipe for discourse, even if the project could end up being quite enjoyable.
Jade is already going to cause some back-and-forth if it ever comes out, so I don't think we needed another one to keep pouring fuel to that fire. Ubisoft might as well just port that one over and eventually do their own take on China.
BrunoHM
You probably should give context to those not in the know, after all, Codename Nebula is an old rumor at this point (2023) and we do not even know if it still exist.
Ubisoft Sofia, known for co-developing Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation and Assassin’s Creed Rogue has pitched Project Nebula – An Assassin’s Creed title that will have three different settings; India, Aztec Empire, and Mediterranean.
Who knows what Sofia was cooking over there...I don´t disagree that India and the Aztec Empire should be their own things. Anyway, if the project lives, it would not be the first time that a setting changed from what was originally intended, like what happened with Origins and Unity.
We will see next year if the 20th anniversary event says anything about it.
BrunoHM
I do agree that the backlash would be lesser now than back in the day, considering all the boundaries pushed and rules broken since then.
As I mentioned earlier, we already had a taste of such possibility before trought the years: from Ezio´s ever expanding ranged options, to the cover system and multi-shot pistols in 3 to Syndicate and the multiple bow types in Origins and beyond. When one thinks about it, there is already not a big gap between cleaning an outpost with a Warrior & Predator bows equipped versus a silenced pistol and sniper on FC and WD.
The contrast is more meaningful when it comes to the enemies themselves and the actual shootouts that would need to happen. That is where they would lack experience when it comes to precedence within the franchise, but could very much get help from those in the known elsewhere.
OR...pull a Naoe/Yasuke type of deal. Add a stealthy protagonist that only uses blades, smoke bombs, darts, silenced guns and a brute protagonist that uses guns and explosives.
I think it depends if they want another "eat their cake and eat it too" situation. There, they wanted both the shinobi and samurai stuff, but in a World War setting, the equivalent of that could be someone in a city and another behind enemy lines. I saw someone suggesting they would stay in contact with each other trought letters and the concept stuck with me. Alas, the structure of that would be quite different than what we would be used to.
With all that said, I still think it is an unlikely choice, considering how there is still quite a few easier ideas to go trought before they entertain crossing that line. As we saw with the report of Stephen Totilo, they were ready to return to the 19th century again before the project was cancelled, but it would be further proof that is the farthest they are willing to go...for now, that is.
BrunoHM
I did not get the impression that the Cybperpunk project was tied to AC. The article is just mentioning the other projects by Tecent that were cancelled alongside Destiny. Here is the quote:
Several other projects were cancelled over time. Athena, a third-person action game based on Greek mythology, was in development between 2024 and 2026. Another was Invictus, a stylized cyberpunk open-world game directed by Assassin’s Creed veteran Ashraf Ismail at TiMi’s Montreal division, with development ending after the closure of the branch earlier this February.
Reminder that Invictus is already the public codename of the multiplayer-focused AC being developed by Ubisoft, which furthers put a distance between that cancelled project and the franchise itself. When it comes to Ashraf...well, he was fired after investigations of misconduct in 2020, so it would be off-putting to have him circumvent that trought another studio (but not impossible, knowing the world we live in).
Hard to see him saying anything meaningful before the actual re-reveal next year. Maybe he comments on the rumors/leaks like last time and clarify what he has been doing since taking over as Creative Director.
A piece of concept art like the Resynced one from March would be appreciated though...
