I was attacked by a panhandler a few years ago after I ignored him. Thankfully my reflexes were quick enough that his punch didn’t connect but the dude followed me to my office downtown threatening me for like 2 blocks.

CPSux

I don’t enjoy his music personally but there’s no denying he’s talented. As a dancer alone he’s a once in a generation talent.

CPSux

Someday it will catch up to him.

CPSux

The arcade games are for kids…?

This must be in Minnesota

DC is a very unique case by American standards. You certainly can support urbanity without tall buildings, but it’s noteworthy that as soon as you leave the district, buildings quickly start rising high. The clusters you mentioned have more daily foot traffic than Downtown Rochester probably sees in a week. There’s even a Wegmans in a 350+ ft building along the Yellow Line in Alexandria.

Rochester has historically been a city of high rises. It’s logical to do so when you’re looking to maximize land use, foster innovation and urban vibrancy. Throughout the early boom, our ambitions were always upward. We had the Powers and Wilder buildings competing for tallest, the Granite Building being an early example of steel frame design, Kodak eventually towered over them all.

Then the mid-late 20th century created the downtown skyline we enjoy today. Xerox, Chase, First Federal Plaza, Bausch & Lomb. Beautiful, yet dated buildings still standing tall above the Genesee. I can’t imagine Rochester without them.

There have been many notable examples of high rises outside of the downtown, too.

We’ve always built up rather than out. At least until the early 2000s when, if you didn’t know any better, one might think a moratorium on high rises was imposed.

And I don’t understand why.

Buffalo still builds tall. Currently, a large scale housing project is under construction at the North Aud block, anchored by 12 story housing complex. Not massive, but notable. Just down the street is the 20 story Harborcenter, only about a decade old.

Even Syracuse has a 7 story apartment in the pipeline.

Meanwhile, the last time Rochester built above 7 stories downtown was in 1995(!)

We’ve actually demolished at least 4 high rises that I can think of since that time, which makes the city feel hollower and honestly like less of a city.

Are you not understanding what I’m explaining?

Terrence Tower would be a perfect fit for a horror or post apocalyptic movie scene. If someone has the connections, they should lobby for its use in TV or film production.

The Dark Knight hospital explosion scene used real demolition footage of a Chicago factory. Doing something similar with the psych tower would be an awesome send off and would immortalize this iconic building forever.

Make it happen!

CPSux

Such an iconic building, it will be genuinely sad to see it go. I know there’s no practical path to renovation. Nobody wants to live in or do business in a haunted psychiatric hospital, plus it’s so badly damaged it’s pretty much beyond repair, but I always enjoyed it.

Also sad to know this city will probably never build another high rise again, at least not in the foreseeable future. Another “5-over-1” complex will replace it, and Rochester will ultimately end up feeling less urban than it did a generation ago.

Asher Roth is a trash “rapper” and his song was basically the 2010s version of Ice Ice Baby. Embarrassing to Hip Hop.

The people I knew who bumped this shit were suburban frat boys whose entire personality revolved around getting blasted. Most of them dropped out anyway. So much for college.

CPSux

Not all of us are frat bros

CPSux

Can someone please explain how this trash song has almost 1k upvotes in a subreddit for HIP HOP heads?

CPSux

What did you say? Reddit removed it. They did the same thing to me, but I won my appeal These AI bots are out of control…

CPSux

Apparently you can’t share personal road rage experiences on Reddit without getting censored nowadays. 11 years on this site and this is the worst it’s ever been.

Edit: Original comment is back. Thank you to the Reddit admin team for reviewing my appeal and making the right call. I greatly appreciate it.

CPSux

The bread’s still good in Rochester. They must be shipping it down frozen to the new stores.

CPSux

Me too. I’ve chased people down and threatened to beat the shit outta them for less. Admittedly, I have terrible road rage.

CPSux

Nas - Life Is Good.

I put it above everything in his discography except Illmatic and IWW. One of the most relatable grown map rap albums ever.

CPSux

Still more expensive than Wegmans

CPSux

Joe Rogan sucks at standup. His show can be enjoyable depending on the guest, but put him on stage alone and it’s a cringe fest.

CPSux

Anthony Cumia turned into an extremely bitter racist piece of shit. I never really liked him as a person but I found a clip of his new show that he does from his basement and holy shit he really became a pathetic, angry, hateful old loser.

CPSux

These people will do literally everything except move back to Rochester.

And I say this as someone from Rochester. We need them more than you guys do…

CPSux

You mean Chris Hogan’s millionaire study?

CPSux

Lmao it’s a cult.

Although it happens to be a cult I’m a member of.
