Interesting! Larion does have continental generation (which is one of a few reasons I choose it frequently), so does Tectonic just do better continental generation, or bigger?
The reasons I'd choose Larion over Tectonic (all personal reasons):
- Larion implements temperature bands. If I go north or south, the biomes will get hotter, then colder, then hotter, etc. in a predictable pattern. It feels good to me.
- It's not trying so hard with its mountains like Tectonic is. Maybe the mountains would feel fine if I gave Tectonic a bigger shot, but it looks like a bit much.
- Larion feels a bit closer to the fun, quirky vanilla generation that I like. Tectonic looks smoothed-out.
Maybe I'll give Tectonic a proper go. I like some of what I'm seeing with it.

This puts things succinctly. I, as a player, do not want to play the game outside of game time, using the phrase "play the game" loosely to include things like levelling up my character.
I'll still level up my character between sessions because that's what's asked of me, I'd just rather do it at the table.

"You really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet Amazon and tell lies?"

I feel like there's an element to your playstyle we're missing. Do you not explore systems? Do you ignore projects and/or anomalies? Do you only explore what's right next to your empire?

You don't have to install anything for Obsidian to work fantastically. Plugins are great, but Obsidian really works better for most people with fewer plugins.
What trouble were you having?

Perhaps config settings for wind-up time and blast radius?

Same. People on this sub get weirdly defensive over their idea that balance is evil. I can't speak about any specific examples of balance in this game, but at the very least there can be an effort to ensure that there's enough reason to pick any option in absence of roleplay.
And they also deny the existence of the competitive side of the game (which I don't care about, but feel should be mentioned). I don't think this game should become an esport or anything, it's just the fact that people say it doesn't exist at all and should never be thought about that weirds me out. There's literally a final score and leaderboards as a core feature of the game.
In related news, I think the game should implement options that are deliberately overpowered and labeled as such, like the challenging origins are. You want extra challenge? Choose an origin labeled as "challenging." You want to start with a sick advantage? Choose an origin labeled as "overpowered." Prevent random empires from spawning with those origins.

I was down to just one fairy to get for 100%. It was the final speedway, whatever it was. I can't remember if I eventually got it or not, but I do remember trying for dozens upon dozens of attempts, spread across weeks or months or something like that.

That'd be a pretty neat thing to include in a world: young goblins look bangable, middle-aged goblins look like ye ol' goblins, and elderly goblins look like they're gonna do some Goblin Slayer shit.

Then there's Yellowcake, with his "solarpunk."
We stole the Sun from the sky to power the machines of our invention, to spite the gods that have abandoned us. And when they finally come back to bring extinction of our species, we will be ready.

System32 gets deleted in the background.

Minecraft does have LODs, but it's just mipmaps (textures), not models, and it's moreso for the sake of making farther textures look better than for performance. (I don't think it really helps performance?)
Although the mipmaps are dynamically-generated, so you'd need a mod (that I doubt exists?) to allow for custom mipmap textures.

I wouldn't blame the mobile user. Professional-made websites will be built for mobile first, then have additional styling layered on top when the screen is wide enough. (This is because it's easier to style things in a column then expand that, then the other way around.) Tons of websites go about it that way and turn out great. Some just suck.

Was that Java or Bedrock? Because if that was Java, that could affect any server I try to run in the future, in the exact same scenario (private, whitelisted, unadvertised).
It's my server for me and my friends and no one else, I do what the fuck I want with it.

I would assume multiple projects for the same modpack, yes.
The idea with the "absolute minimal" version is not to make a playable experience, but to just keep what's absolutely necessary for the progression to function. Stuff like quests, the mods those quests need, etc. A baseline for players with opinions. Maybe I muddied the waters with that idea, I'll remove it from there and paste it here.
Absolute minimum. Anything not needed for the core gameplay/progression is cut, even EMI and Appleskin. This leaves the core of the pack that the player can add onto themselves as they see fit. Not meant for playing straight.
CallMeAdam2
Yeah, I've noticed that modpacks are adding way too many extraneous mods for the sake of looking pretty.
IMO, most modpacks should leave out most non-vital mods. Keep EMI, Appleskin, etc., but leave out the mods that add extra sounds, extra particles, etc.
I also think that many modpacks would benefit from coming in multiple variants.
- Minimal. This will include stuff like EMI and Appleskin. A playable experience.
- Basic. This will include stuff like biome mods and decorative blocks, all integrated into the experience as per usual. The complete package.
- Extra. This is the opinionated, bloated experience. The author's personal taste in particles, resource packs, and stuff.

Gotchya, I think I got you backwards the first time. I took your words to mean that you disliked the Nether because mods devalued it. Instead, your choice of mods devalue the Nether because you dislike it. All good.
CallMeAdam2
That seems a little harsh criticism for a vanilla dimension. I don't think that mods that take away the special qualities of the Nether make the Nether a badly-designed dimension. That's just a quirk of the modded landscape. It's the modpack designer's choice whether to include Waystones or other fast-travel options.
CallMeAdam2
Will it be automatable? And would there be a config to enable/disable the automation of the table?
CallMeAdam2
Maybe the fizzle option (when config-enabled) could require an upgrade or extra FE? I'm imagining config options to enable an upgrade item requirement, extra FE while fizzling is enabled, and extra FE when fizzling occurs, each option toggleable separately.

I think the hollows would work best as a tile entity that lies flat on the log. That means it doesn't alter the actual log itself and can be easily removed by hand (or if the log is moved). And it's not like an owl's gonna set up shop on a side of a log that's obstructed.
CallMeAdam2
I never even considered trying that. My mind is blown.

Worldbuilding is the act of making up fictional worlds and detailing them. It can be for novels, for role-playing games, for video games, just for fun, or for any other reason.
This sub is for building imaginary things in imaginary worlds.
That the company sent early.
It's like Scrooge handing over one penny to a guy, realizing he accidentally gave two, and hopping over the counter to beat the shit out of the guy and rob him of both pennies. For a mistake Scrooges of the Coast made.
Like, shit man, eat your mistake and let the guy have his cards early.
