I think it’s hard to advocate harsher sentences for junior sailors when the SecDef and CinC are guilty of far worse, but face no consequences.

There are a lot of UK hermits too! I think if there was a Hermit-focused event that they could be confident would be successful, several of the US hermits would travel across the pond.
Also, it could be a yearly, or second-yearly event, maybe switching continents each time…give Pearl some love in AUS!

Unfortunately the checks and balances have been being systematically disabled since the 1980s (or even before) with full visibility to the American public. The government is indeed drowning in the bathtub, and too many people are standing around high five-ing and cheering.
The “majority” is splintered between the apathetic, the ignorant, and the corrupt, which is why there isn’t a strong enough movement yet to restore the balance.

I’m pretty sure you’re still okay to discuss conservative ideas on Twitter, Facebook, et al. Maybe just, you know, refrain from fomenting insurrection and sedition and don’t pass off blatant misinformation as fact. Just a thought...
But you know, private enterprise will work it out while you pull yourselves up by the bootstraps.

No, that’s not what I’m talking about.
So, I guess it’s safe to say you don’t have anything substantive to add to this conversation?
Calteran
You want a conversation? You refused to answer the first question I asked. Literally, what does this sub you’re on stand for?
I googled “what is American Conservatism” and got this article: https://www.heritage.org/conservatism/commentary/what-conservatism . I believe Heritage is well respected by conservatives. What in that article suggests that conservatives would support the government taking away an individual’s liberty to make decisions about their own body?
Or is the article wrong? Can you answer either question?
Calteran
Too bad you deleted your original reply here.
Quoth the member of r/conservatism: “I don’t feel like explaining conservatism to you.”
Thanks for validating my view of conservatives.
I think I’m done here.
Calteran
Is that an acknowledgement that you can’t provide a logical explanation for conservatism? You’d rather I give you a list of things that you can attack individually?
Calteran
Not being a libertarian, I agree with government regulation of certain “externalities.” The point I was making is that modern conservatism has no logical consistency regarding which “externalities” they support regulating.
The only logical connection I can find is that conservatives support regulating others, but never themselves.
I’m totally open to being shown I’m wrong here, but I’ve been waiting for a good, logical explanation of modern conservatism since the Clinton era, and it just seems more batshit crazy as the years progress.
Calteran
I’m so confused. I thought conservatives were against the government interfering in people’s lives. Shouldn’t this be a decision between the individual, their parents and qualified doctors (psychologist, surgeon, etc)? Seems to respect everybody’s liberty more than a blanket ban.

Dude, the first sentence of my original comment reads “...on international flights.” So it’s not false, you just missed the context. If you delete your comments and downvotes, I’ll delete mine.
The whole comment:
Airlines are actually required to check that the passenger is manifested on the flight (or a previous one) before loading each bag on international flights. Back when I handled bags, we’d usually send “revenge” routing bags as many legs out of our domestic network as possible. Key West was always a favorite destination from the west coast.
Right up there with war crimes, I agree.
