Hi! I was one of the devs behind CV2.

I don’t think there would have been a CV3, mostly because we were quite happy with the power and expressiveness of CV2. That said, we did do a little bit of investigation into what it would look like to add “text scripting” - allowing people to write code in Rec Room Studio. I think it’s possible that would have eventually come to fruition.

I’ve played a lot of TF2, so I too had thought about a payload mode for paintball. No idea what a payload object would have been, but if I ever prototyped it, I definitely would have used that janky laundry cart!

Other VR games: I’ve spent hundreds of hours in The Under Presents (made by the same team that did VVR). I also really like a game called Cook Out! which is about co-op sandwich making.

Favorite songs: Electar, Homestead Varmint, and the Credits music. (I do also have a soft spot for the set of 4 songs which used to play in the old Rec Center.)

Thanks for the kind words about Circuits! I was one of the technical leads for the team that built CV2. It was an absolute blast working on it. We got a couple of notes from people over the years who said it was their introduction to programming, and it inspired them to go study Computer Science in college. As you can imagine, that made our work feel extremely rewarding.

I'm going to answer this too.

Favorite RRO: 3D Charades. I maintain that it was our best "social game," and I made a bunch of friends there over the years.

Favorite UGC room: ^SpotIt - an oldie but a goodie.

Outfit: I don't have a picture handy, but I rocked one of the default-unlocked shirts from the day I joined in 2016 until the shutdown. (Fun fact - my original plain blue shirt was removed from the game, so I had to switch to the plaid one!) Add in the red archer hat, black quiver, paintball goggles, and grey space marine gloves, and you have classic Carthage.

Experimental stuff: I had two "secret projects" that I had toyed around with, but never had the time to fully make happen. One was a king-of-the-hill style paintball mode which I made a small prototype for, but never even got around to playtesting. The other was a "Pirate" language setting, which would translate a bunch of the game text into pirate-speak. I got the tech working, but never got enough of the text "translated" for it to be worth actually shipping.

Merch: It would have been really crazy, but some sort of way to get a physical model of your avatar would have been awesome.

That message was mine.

I'd spent a few weeks processing my feelings about everything, and that's where I landed. I put it on the marquee on one of my last days in the office.

Carthage96

Thanks for the kind words!

I loved working on Circuits, and it's such a joy to hear that it was a gateway into programming for so many people.

I've been known to be a time sprite from time to time...

Corrected Golden Trophy variants (tracks 2 and 3 on OST Vol 1 don't actually match what was in-game, so I'm gonna post the corrected ones)

Actually, tracks 2, 3 and 4 on OST Vol 1 don't match!

Others:

  • Golden Trophy Turbo Explore
  • Could we maybe get the "game starting" variants for some of the RROs? (The music that plays during the 10 second countdown after "Start Game" was pressed.) Some of these are just snippets from the actual track, but I think 3D Charades (both legacy and Ink Space) had unique pieces.

We wanted to give people a little bit of extra time to download their photos. I know that I was taking photos up until the last minute!

Carthage96

It's not something to feel stupid about.

I was sitting in our office, bawling my eyes out when it happened.

Carthage96

Me too. It was something special.

Carthage96

Yup, okay... that hurt to look at.

Carthage96

I believe it will be closed down. So if you want something, now's the time to grab it!

Carthage96

If you change the file extension to .room or .inv, you should have what you're looking for.

Carthage96

The .binpb files which are exported with rooms and inventions are those raw files! (They've got a different extension, but the file content is exactly what that game loads.)

tl;dr Update to the latest version, and you won't see this anymore.

Last Thursday, we put out a Steam update which mistakenly was missing a digital signature. (There was an issue with our build pipeline and we didn't notice.) That made it look suspicious to antivirus software, and so it got flagged.

We put out a correctly signed version of that update the next day.

Carthage96

Thanks for saying so. We've loved getting to build Rec Room for you.

Carthage96

We had an issue with our build pipeline yesterday, which resulted in the build not being signed. The game was no different than it normally was, but it looked suspicious to your antivirus.

About 8-9 hours ago we released a properly-signed version of the update. So, make sure you're on the latest build, and you should stop seeing this issue.

Carthage96

You're very welcome!

Carthage96

We had an issue with our build signing process - it wasn't a virus (promise!), but without the signature it looked much more suspicious to antivirus software.

We have just pushed out an updated version of the update. You should be good to go now!

Carthage96

This should no longer be necessary. We just put out a new version of the update.
