Why? Soulless art that looks like crap is in no way better than what OP did.

Carthax12

Nope, I'm vehemently anti-generative AI. And what he's describing is generative AI slop.

Carthax12

No, that's slop. You should feel bad.

Carthax12

Me and the AI said, "What the actual fuck, Carl" at the same time. LOL

Carthax12

Nah, I think she's okay, and not nearly as bad as everyone makes her out to be.

I read to my son in utero. The Chronicles of Narnia, Mrs Frisbee and the Rats of N.I.M.H., The Chronicles of Prydain, The Book of Three... he's 11 now, and we still read every other night (alternating nights are video nights where he usually watches The Spiffing Brit break Skyrim). I ❤️ him. I also ❤️ reading to him. :-)

Carthax12

Repeat from a couple of days ago. Same exact image.

Carthax12

Is that a "Don't do that," or a "That ain't right?"

I think I'd go with "Don't do that."

Carthax12

Can confirm. Nearly 15 years in development, with the last 4 as a senior developer, and I look up stuff all the time.

Carthax12

I am a web developer running several applications with many 100s of 1000s of users connecting daily. I say that Blizzard effed up, too.

Carthax12

LOL Yeah, it's not a Blizzard release without some "issues."

Come on, Blizzard -- it's not like you didn't know you would need some extra login servers. You've done this before, repeatedly. It's like you *enjoy* getting hated on.

Carthax12

Yup. I just experienced that myself. :-(

Carthax12

An (thankfully) ex-coworker did this (pseudocode):

var id = [function argument] User user = new User(); user.FirstName = db.Users.Where(x=>x.UserId == id).First().FirstName user.LastName = db.Users.Where(x=>x.UserId == id).First().LastName ..and phone ..and email ..and street address ..and city ..and state ..and zip

I had to rewrite his code.

I replaced one particularly memorable 600+ line function with a 12 line function and a 10 line support function. My 22 lines of code did the exact same thing as his 600+, it did it faster, and it was far more stable.

I still occasionally think about that codename and sigh deeply.

Carthax12

Same. Must stay at 23.

Carthax12

Condoms.

Carthax12

Maybe they are taking work advice from Black Widow? LOL

I got a call mid-day on a Saturday from the steel mill I worked at many, many years ago. The furnace manager said, quite sheepishly, "I need help. I was looking at the Earth drive (all servers were named after planets) and saw my files in two places: the U: drive and also pn Earth:\users[myname]. I didn't think that was right, so I deleted them from the second location."

It took me a moment, but I finally was able to say, "Give me a bit; I've got to drive in to fix that, because I'll have to do a restore from the *tape backup."

*Note: reel-to-reel tape, because, of course the user did this two weeks before we upgraded to CD backups. Restoring his 250 megs of data took nearly 3 hours. 😞

Carthax12

Nightwish does it for me, or nothing. Depends on my mood.

Carthax12

Mass deportations were done legally under Biden, following the existing laws.

Epstein flight logs have not been taken out of context, except where Republicans have taken snippets out of context to protect Trump and other Republicans.

Elon Musk's nazi salute was not taken out of context. You cannot watch videos of it and think it was anything BUT a nazi salute.

This is why it's impossible to take Republicans seriously. LOL

Carthax12

Do you get off on taking things so out of context that they are no longer true? LOL

Carthax12

"I wasn't even 10 yet" in the late 90s.

First off, RUDE.

Also, you reminded me it's time for my next dose of ibuprofen. LOL

Also, also-- I <3 that game and the camaraderie I felt when playing with folks I'd only know a few days or weeks. We all had so much fun talking shit and trying to beat hell hell. :-)

Not tech-related, but in my first job as chief pooper-scooper at a vet clinic, the assistant manager had her trash can, which was overflowing, and a brown paper bag full of papers sitting next to and physically touching it. I bagged it all and took it to the trash. Turns out the brown paper bag had bills and other such useful stuff in it. She called me after I had already gone home for the day and threatened to fire me if I didn't come back immediately. Then she literally made me climb into the dumpster to get the bag.

Not at all sure why your story made me think of that one... LOL

Carthax12

I've seen it happen, and have even stepped in to stop the (inevitably) white person doing it.

Carthax12

I have no money for an award, but if I did I'd give you one for making me laugh out loud. 😀

Carthax12

That's day M. ...or T. LOL
