I don’t think hosting American bases on Australian soil and buying $350 billion submarines is nearly as popular with the general public as people here seem to think
Cat-Lilac
Hate to break it to you but removing American bases has always been Greens policy. Don’t you remember when Bob Brown got ejected from parliament for shouting at George W Bush?
Cat-Lilac
Not sure why people in the comments are surprised as I’m pretty sure this is where the Greens have always stood. Certainly on the American bases and AUKUS sceptical part which I think is eminently sensible.
You have literally every other party to vote for if you want someone slavishly pro American
Cat-Lilac
Populist does not automatically equal bad. The roots of populism was in the gilded age and it was a movement of working class people against the rich elites. It is this faux right wing populism that’s all about punching down that’s terrible
People are too dim to see that Hanson is the opposite of a genuine populist. She’s there to protect the interests of Gina Reinhardt etc
Populism literally means standing up for the people against the rich and special interests. If there was ever a time for that it’s now.
Cat-Lilac
Shoebridge is the right choice. He’s relatively new and has performed really well against Penny Wong. The Greens really need a reset with an overarching narrative about why everything is shite. They are not going to get that with SHY.
Cat-Lilac
💯 Shoebridge had the ability to cut through while remaining cool, calm and collected
Cat-Lilac
Yes exactly. Carney is way better than Albo on international affairs but he has really crap neoliberal domestic policies - just what you’d expect from a central banker.
He’s as pro-business and centrist as Malcolm Turnbull or Macron. These people haven’t noticed it’s not 1996 anymore
Cat-Lilac
Yes, this is one of the most unforgivable ones!
Cat-Lilac
Scanlon is likely to lose her electorate after the restructure
Cat-Lilac
I don’t think they are happy at all about being stuck at third party status and there’s been a lot of internal discussion and frustration about it especially when the UK greens were surging
Cat-Lilac
There’s a lot of overlap with those groups
Cat-Lilac
Talk about deflecting from ASIO’s failure to monitor extremists known to them.
The 2 agencies whose negligence allowed Bondi to happen are ASIO and NSW police!
Cat-Lilac
I really wish Burgess would follow his own advice about not raising the temperature and undermining social cohesion!!!
Cat-Lilac
This guy needs to be sacked!! This would be beyond unprofessional for the head of any government agency let alone ASIO!!
Cat-Lilac
Well yes of course we need more than hope but it’s a great headline which is the point
You don’t get much more clear eyed than Shoebridge
Cat-Lilac
Don’t forget Langbroek and Mander!! Except for Crisafooli they are all the Newman old guard and they are all clearly running roughshod over the premier
Cat-Lilac
So what? We’re talking about pro-Israel Zionists and they are not all Jewish anyway
Cat-Lilac
How ridiculously nitpicky. Under Israel’s ethno supremacy laws, all Jews have the right to Israeli citizenship and many of them are dual citizens. In Australia a very high proportion of Jews are Zionists and there are also Christian Zionists. It’s not a stretch for there to be at least 100,000 very pro Israel people in Australia
Cat-Lilac
It’s helluva stretch to classify a weapons factory as “critical infrastructure”.
Cat-Lilac
Since when is property damage to a weapons manufacturer "terrorism ". Hope we are not going down the authoritarianism path like the UK.
Mike Burgess obviously thrilled at the opportunity to put the words 'far-left' and 'terrorism' together and have a go at pro-Palestine peace protests at the same time.
Cat-Lilac
And unlike ON the Greens have actual policies for actual change.
And if you really want to upset the apple cart, electing a Greens government would do the job waaay better than ON
Cat-Lilac
Wow she’s famous enough to have her own Wikipedia entry 🫤
Uh, you do understand military support is different to humanitarian aid right? As far as I’m aware Australia does not provide weapons to Palestinians so nothing would change except Greens might actually increase humanitarian aid like UNRWA
