I'd say that wasn't really deadly, a combo of high vigor (compared to the level) and low damage, at lvl 150+ a dedicated build can easily 2 shot or true combo someone.

Chack96

Right, i didn't check the rules properly, but i guess my DM would start to give out exaustion levels if i were to actually do something like that.

10 minute cast for 4 people is 40 minutes and the spell last 1 hour, you'd need to repeat the process every 30 minutes, that's not exactly feasible to keep up all the time.

Rivers of London I'd say, the protagonist is a (low) magic cop, so the narrative does not exactly follow the classic fantasy party doing stuff, but it definitely fits the bill.

Very good point, I'm currently in a combat as war campaign and we have been hit on the head multiple times with this, despite being experienced in Gdr in general we had no gauge of how strong some stuff is (or what kind of out of combat capabilities they have available) and without literal clairvoyance we can't know if someone has an ace up their sleeve that can be as easy as a spell scroll or some soldier in reserve.

In general the player needs to be accepting of the fact that stuff can go very wrong, which is not always the case even when initially on board with the idea.

Ciri sections being affected by the difficulty is meh at best, she is a character with no equipment and no skill tree meant for story interludes, the fact that she gets the same increase in difficulty as geralt who can actually prepare for fights is not a great idea.

I'm not entirely sure why the double standard exist, why can't a good artist use ai tools to help with his work like a programmer does ? do they not use complex programs to work (that will be programmed with the help of ai) and they are master of every single detail ?

I'm appalled at finding this kind of opinion even in this sub, not everyone find the same things enjoyable/interesting/fun, someone could easily like to code and dislike engaging in other common form of art such as drawing/painting.

There are games that try to do that, for instance Gothic serie and Outward use money for learning skills and there are several money sinks, so choices are meaningful (at least the order of choices, if by the end you have everything is fine i'd say), but there are many catches :

  • This only works for the first time you play the game and if you naturally accept all wrong decision and failed quests (Outward has dark souls like save and defeat scenarios instead of death, so it helps) without looking up solutions online (including gear location, recipes and stuff). This mostly because the first time around you don't know what is a good purchase and how much money you can expect to have. This can still not be enough if you are an experienced player, but it is usually good enough.
  • This only works if there are no dumb money farming tricks that were likely missed by the devs and not fixed, i say dumb because if you can manage to regularly defeats end game enemies well enough to farm them then the money is not really of consequence. This is helped if the game is the static loot kind (Morrowind, Gothic, Outward, ecc.)
  • Related to the point above : crime and random loot avaliable around town, this is just basically a bad system that works a little only if you play it straight first time with no reload, otherwise is just kind of a money cheat, i'll be interesting if in future games we'll have decent systems in place to handle this kind of things properly.
  • A game normally will try to give you enough to thrive even in unoptimal condition (see point 1) and this is just good game design, you don't want your player to drop the game toward the end because their epic adventure is hindered by not being able to buy food or stuff like that (unless it is that kind of game i guess), by the same token you will want to escalate the amount of money obtained while advancing in the game because you don't want to punish players for minor decisions early in the game when they didn't fully grasp the system.

Btw, a decent example of amount of money used well was the 10k (minus taxes) from the king in the Witcher 1, it wasn't actually given, but the money amount was enough to feel meaningful for the scope of the game, btw, the witcher 1 i also consider decent with money, it's just that if you are a completionist, correctly use the money to buy all the knowledge books before killing monsters and realize that meteoric ore weapons and runes and the jacket are kind of too costly for what they are worth you'll be rolling in money, but for a first timer money can feel meaningfully tight (they were when i was like 12 lol).

Chack96

Well, lots of people are idiots, or lack the time or the will to do research, which is the point of advertising, not everyone will be affected, it just needs to attract more money that what is spent in advertisement.

Chack96

I guess they are glass cannon in the sense that Regis would use stealth to approach, also stuff from the witcher does not really translate into D&D, one hit kill are a thing and reaction times of mages are just slightly better than human.

Many great answers, I'll give my perspective as someone who played a Giovanni, dealing with Ghosts is not as straightforward as it seems from the other side, most likely some sort of mystical binding is involved since statistically the ghost doesn't want to have anything to do with the necromancer (unless the ghost is of someone who hated you in life, then it is bad), there are many rolls that can go wrong with the whole process and the ghost/wraith is only waiting to get free.

A great classic supernatural agnostic is to try to feed false informations, if you know for sure that you are observed you can spin it at your advantage, easiest one is to feed false times for important operations or feign some kind of weakness to lure into a trap. Remember from the point above that the ghost is likely antagonistic to the necromancer, so probably if you give them a chance to play devil's advocate with some ambiguos informations it will take it.

Chack96

Yeah, in my experience 1 and 4, basically inexperience with the game and genre.

Chack96

I mean, yes, but would you trust a Tzimisce with your body ?

Chack96

Dark souls is not a game of reflexes, it is a game of timing, very different, mostly because the intended experience is dying until you get the timing (or find some other clever or brute force solution).

Chack96

What do you even mean ? Extra range is at premium because it is good, if you have a good ranged spell (comet line) when the boss jump around you can hit him, while with slicer you would have needed to run after him, if there is a good opening with some ground slam you can use the moon (which by the way debuff magic resistance and make slicer stronger) to capitalize on it, you can open the fight with icecrag to inflict frost and help your damage, ecc. you are looking at spells in a very one dimensional way.

Chack96

Being a mage does not lock you out of using weapons, a standard weapon infused magic with freezing mist as aow is perfectly serviceable and gives you an easy debuff to amplify your spells, also since you are leveling stamina you can use some heavier armor (also because longsword + staff is like 5-6 weight) without much trouble, in the end having int as main stat is not that much worse than having strenght, you also need mind, but like mind 25-30 is plenty enough until late game.

Chack96

But that's not what he said, in the context of a band he basically said that he would talk about them to people who would appreciate the specific music and won't ruin the vibe.

Chack96

Unless you are into that kind of thing, i tried that both as a player and master and it worked well, of course you don't do that with new players or players that are not much mechanically oriented.

Chack96

In the context of the scene Jasnah would be Kaladin's commander that is telling him to go fight a Mistborn that needs to be dealt with.

Chack96

She could have worldhopped before era 2.

Chack96

The Fifth Season started off mega well with a very interesting world and narrative, then starting from the second book it just stop being interesting, toward the end it was a snoozefest.

Chack96

Lol, i have kind of the opposite opinion about Uprooted and Spinning Silver (i don't actively dislike it but it landed a bit more flat for me).

Chack96

Well, if you are bullshitting by definition you know you don't know.

Chack96

Poesia.
