It's about a creature which is both incredibly powerful and incredibly annoying and stupid with no self awareness at all, and it goes around annoying everyone and destroying everything like some sort of mad disaster. If you have a favourite white shirt, the creature will find it somehow and it will stain it through a string of unlikely events, accidentally blowing up the whole city in the process. The creature will survive the explosion thanks to sheer stupid luck. Also there's a samourai who's trying to stop the creature.

By the way, some of the events are pretty mandatory to understand the main story. You want to read up to Chapter 7, then 'Floor it to the Golden City', then 'Route 77: The Haunted Highway', then Chapter 8, then 'Last Evenings on Earth', then the remaining chapters

Realistically it's probably because these are movies made to appeal to an audience and cars/motorcycles simply look cooler. They're bigger, heavier and faster while it could be a bit silly to see characters frantically pedalling away from the zombies on their teeny tiny bicycles.

Ironically, bicycles being lighter is an advantage, you can just easily carry them over obstacles like a fallen tree or a fence. They also don't need gas and are easier to repair.

Also there's no magnetic field there, so the solar wind could seriously damage any electronic device, especially during a big solar storm. A Carrington or Miyake event would be devastating nowadays on Earth and probably deadly on Mars.

It's a few centuries too early for that

You'd need to be incredibly lucky for that to be the case. If you have severe mental issues people won't wholesomely help you build a normal life, you'd be way more likely to be bullied/hated for seemingly no reason and to struggle a lot in your daily life. You'd probably have noticed something was off with you by now
