An actor can be tremendously talented at playing certain kinds of characters, while also knowing his limitations RE: range.

Daniel Day-Lewis would do a shit job of playing a Quarterback in a film about a football player…but he’s still tremendously talented because he’s phenomenal at the roles he chooses to play.
