Go complain to Guido van Rossum then, I'm just telling you how it works

ChemTechGuy

The default parameter is just a reference to the list. So technically the parameter isn't being changed at all. One of the oddities of pass-by-reference

The EV9 is what I'm looking at now. The whole ICCU thing has me spooked but I plan on buying one next year unless GM announces something, or if the Highlander EV can beat it on price or reliability

ChemTechGuy

A non Cadillac version of the Vistiq is what I want, something like the size of a Yukon/Tahoe but less expensive than the Escalade IQ.  I'd go buy it today if it was available

Edit: you said CT4, CT5, for some reason my brain read XT4, XT5. Ignore me

You can do dormant seeding, where you put down grass seed after temperatures are consistently below 50F. In theory the grass seed will naturally germinate in the spring when temperatures rise, and hopefully they'll naturally get the water they need from the spring thaw.

That's the theory anyway, I'm trying it for the first time this year

I laughed really hard at this, and I needed a good laugh. Thanks Internet stranger

Am I crazy, i thought the ioniq 6 was discontinued in the US

Even existing solutions will become more competitive. Break even point for investment in solar panels has already come down a lot, if utility rates keep going up then solar panels become an asset that lasts easily 30 years that pays for itself in 10 years.

I'm interested to see if the change in utility rates increases the number of home battery systems as well

ChemTechGuy

Exactly. It's comments like the one from pelicandev that make me regret browsing reddit

ChemTechGuy

What does this even mean

ChemTechGuy

Any ongoing issues with the GHCA module that were failing in ex90s? Are you heading from Volvo corporate that the issue has been fixed for all new models?

ChemTechGuy

Hey all, wanted to get the collective wisdom of this community on a question. I'm getting ready for my first EV purchase and researching makes and models. In my initial research, I've come across some reliability issues that made me hesitate. For example, I was excited about the EV9 until I read about the common (and sometimes recurring) issues with their ICCU. Even under warranty, these owners lost the use of their car for weeks at a time. So I gave up on the Hyundai platform and started looking at Rivian next.

The Rivian owners tended to agree that the car was reliable, unless something went wrong with the battery or charging system, in which case repairs took weeks.

Then I read about Volvos GHCA issues affecting 2025 models, and how they were still putting faulty GHCA modules into 2026 models. Again, repairs that took weeks either due to parts not being available or the lack of technicians? who could do the work.

So two questions * Should I just assume any EV has a small chance of battery or charger issues, and be ready to lose a working vehicle for a few weeks at some point?  * if the answer to the first question is no, what brand(s) have the lowest rate of problems for the battery and charging system?

note, I'm not worried about infotainment problems or app problems or other non driving issues

Note 2: I'm excluding an Tesla models for personal reasons

I made this mistake when first using htmx, I was just in love with the framework. Back button didn't work, couldn't easily load links in other tabs, couldn't create deep link URLs. I imagine (hope?) it's a common mistake

ChemTechGuy

Not talking about merge conflicts boyo

ChemTechGuy

Generally agree except at a certain scale you start to have problems with so many contributers/contributions to a single repo

ChemTechGuy

I was going to argue, but I guess you're right. I can't refute the statement "if it is not painful enough to force decomposition, then microservices are not necessary"

ChemTechGuy

Monolith decomposing rarely happens

I just learned about this video and it's truly improved my life and brought me happiness

What's your profession, how does one work on electrification programs?

Fuck inexplicably SELECTIVE capitalization

ChemTechGuy

Can confirm.

That seems like a really sweet setup, especially (I'm assuming) with those sweet sweet State benefits. Congrats on working out a part time arrangement
