Bossmen hate this one trick

Exactly. Blaming yourself is what Big Shat wants you to think

Cladser

That would be an ecumenical matter

Just to add in our place Pure data is managed by our Research Services staff with academics only really required to update papers.

So it may be your colleague has taken most of the credit but equally it could be a PSS member of staff taking their best guess based on the paperwork they have ( time allocated on the grant costings for example) . Worth checking before doing anything.

The Descent. Had no idea what it was going in, and assumed it was a trapped and escape thriller. The first sighting I jumped out of my seat. Really awesome but also really rare.

> Sweating is the closest thing to a wonder drug

Poor Prince Andrew, he’ll never see the benefit.

There’s not one AI detector worth a damn. If accused ask them what the validated false positive rate is (they will not know)

Some simple maths - in a University with 10,000 students all turning in on overage say 10 assignments per year that’s 100,000 assignments. A false positive rate of 1% is 1000 incorrectly classified essays (and likely hundreds of students) per year. And this is wildly optimistic since it’s unlikely any detector can get to 1%

I’m not sure, I think Gruber and Snell have written a fair bit about the black box approach to lock outs by Apple, particularly the case of Bufffield-Addison (which interestingly Apple reversed and unlocked once Gruber got involved).

I love this. Now do it in Attenborough’s voice

Used to have almost exactly this set up (27 over a 32 ultra-wide) and the top Monitor absolutely becomes a pain after a while.

Teach me to scroll faster than I can read!!

Shallow Grave - lesser known British film but holds up very well. (also an early direction by Danny Boyle)

No no no - it’s “But I’ve got underpants”

It’s a cover of The Zutons version

Surely that scene means Dennis Hopper is the answer.

I posted this previously. I use a local models for some personal growth/therapy. I do a lot of private long form writing to work out what I think (or feel) about something g. I use a local models in obsidian to help with long form writing after I’ve got it all out my head.

I also forked a therapy repo that was designed for Claude or ChatGTP APIs and added a local option again because I don’t need my Claude model knowing that much about me.

If it helps I’m on a M3 max with 64gb and had good results with the smaller Gemini models (these an moe version which is pretty good for the therapy side).

He’s on to us lads !

Sir (or ma’am -hard to be sure) you win today’s internet.

A friend of ours bought some reasonably expensive scaffolding to reach his roof. A kind of single tower DIY set up (similar but not quite the same as you get when you hire in scaffolders). Anyway after he was done he hires it out to local people who need it to do a thing but don’t want to spend a grand on a tower. It’s out most weekends and some weekdays. Not going to make him super wealthy but has paid for itself several times over.

In a similar vein there was a thread on Reddit somewhere about a guy who inherited his grandads lock up garage to find it was full of tools. He set up a webpage where people can rent like a drill press or scissor lift for the weekend for cheap and according to the post it was always busy (but this was on Reddit so you never know).

Top drawer band definitely.

Cladser

Steady on now.

100% my reaction too. Didn’t look like my thing at L and horror comedies miss much more than they hit but this was great.

> what am I supposed to say. Oh hidy ho officer! We've had a doozy of a day. There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house when kids started killing themselves all over my property.

David Niven - appears super sophisticated but was a special forces operative (SBS I think) in WW2. Mental life overall.

So him and Ronnie Pickering obvs.

Coding is not the only use case for local AI. Sure I have a Claude subscription for my code work. But I also quite happily run a strong local model (Gemma 4 currently) for privacy first writing tasks on good but modest hardware (m3 max @64gb)

So por que no los dos?
